Help me choose: Duke 1 or Case

After looking at Simpson brushes for a while I've decided I'm either going to pick up a Duke 1 or Case. They fit my budget, and I want to try a smaller brush. I face lather about half the time, and I'm looking for a brush that doesn't hog too much lather (my Rooney 3/1 tends to do that every once in a while). I use mostly soaps. The other two brushes I have are a Rooney 3/1 in super (great brush, would like a much smaller knot) and an Omega 81052 boar (destroys my soaps, and feels floppy at times).

Is there a huge difference between the two other than the 5mm difference in loft, 1mm difference in knot size, $20 difference in price, and the fact that the Case comes with a tube?

Oh, and if I could, I would buy both; I'm saving the big bucks for a custom Shavemac soon

Here are the measurements:

Duke 1
loft-45mm
knot-19mm
total-84mm

Case
loft-40mm
knot-18mm

I own the Case and like it quite a bit. Can't say anything about the Duke. The Case is smaller but not by much. Either way, I am sure you can't lose with either brushes. Funny enough, I prefer a stiffer bristle so the Case is not my favorite because it is "best" grade. Keep that in mind if you choose the Case over the Duke.

I have the Case, but not the Duke. So, I can't make a comparison, but I can highly recommend the Case. It is an excellent brush.

For once, I have had both brushes listed.

I still have the Case, sold the Duke.

Enough said?

If not, the case is better because: There is almost no bloom. The duke really flares out, but the case stays nice and compact. More backbone too.

And it comes with a travel case.

I think the Case looks better. It also has a tube, and costs less. That leaves room for a decent boar, you know.....

I have both and love both. I actually picked up an extra travel tube, which the Duke 1 fits inside perfectly. Basicly I see it as having two handy travel brushes.

what did you end up with? I have been looking at simpsons online for HOURS.....it is getting quite ridiculous and I too narrowed it down to the duke d1 and case. I think I am going to go with the case...

Not to throw a curve ball but have you looked at the beauforts? The B1 is an 18mm knot...very nice indeed! And it's a tiny brush...

All Simpson's brushes are great brushes.
No doubt.
Between the Duke 1 and the Case, I would centainly go with the Duke 1.
The Duke 1, in fact, has, in my opinion, a better looking and more comfortable handle, has a superb backbone and it's also a smaller version of my absolute favourite brush, which is the Duke 3.

After a lot of research, I decided to go with the case. I actually sent an email over to the superior shave and received a quick reply with the opinion of one of their employees; he told me for a smaller brush that does not bloom a lot, with a pretty dense knot, the case was his recommendation. He even told me that the Simpsons Case is their #1 seller from the Simpsons line. Surprising, but I guess it makes sense at $50 it is relatively inexpensive and a best badger from a reputable company.

I think you made a fine choice. I just purchased one last week and just got done face lathering with it about 10 minutes ago. It really does a nice job with my Palmolive shave stick. Three passes and plenty left over.

Enjoy
