Just wanted to say hello everyone, been reading and learning a lot from this forum, which helped much in my first steps in all this straight razor stuff.
I purchased a NOS Filarmonica #14 Doble Temple a few weeks ago, it was getting dust during years in the hairstyling supplies store. Incredible lucky I am, paid 23 (I live in spain) and I didn't even knew what I was buying. The first shaves were a nightmare, so i discovered the factory edge is not a shave ready edge.
Tried luck honing with some sandpaper, but I couldn't find a finer grit than 800. Took some unsatisfying shavings more, and I found a very kind guy here in spain who could hone my razor. Sent it to him, and it should be back in a few days, so maybe this weekend I will be able to shave miself with a fine edge. I'm dying in anticipation, as you will imagine.
During this time, I even made some basic scales to replace the ugly blue plastic ones that came with the razor. Also trashed my williams canned foam, got some Trumper's Lime soap, learned a lot about brushes, soaps, scuttles, got to make a nice lathe... all thanks to badgerandblade
So, greetings to all members, I'll keep you informed with my progress.
