First, welcome to B&B. I use Scrubbing Bubbles with a soft tooth bursh. Plus hot water

Scrubbing bubbles is the way to go. Don't soak, just spray and use an old toothbrush on it and rinse.
Blades, GEM stainless blades from the drugstore, or Treet carbon blades (you have to dry these between shaves or they'll rust)

I also dunk new razors in Barbicide for 10 minutes after scrubbing the "grunge" off
I am a belt and suspenders kind of guy so this might not be for you

I use scrubbing bubbles. Then, if I feel like it I will rub it down with alcohol.
