What's new

Having Robotic Surgery on Friday!

I had spinal surgery earlier this year (cervical fusion) and have been getting back into exercising, gradually adding in heavier lifts like squats.

Apparently I may be getting too old and need to change my routine, because now I have an inguinal hernia that needs to be repaired. Having that done this Friday.

The surgeon is going to use a robot to perform the surgery. I guess it's the DaVinci system? Supposed to be less invasive with faster recovery.

Sounds to me like the doctor is playing a video game ... hope he has enough quarters.

But what really has me nervous ...

Do you think they'll use Personna Med Preps to shave the surgery area beforehand, or some inferior blade that will leave me irritated?

If you have a good health policy, they will probably use Med Prep, if you don't, they might use Dorco.

Before the laproscopic technology, hernia surgery was pretty intense.
Are you going to be hospitalized overnight or discharged same day?

I had ankle surgery a few weeks ago, i shaved myself a Lather Catcher :)

Good luck!

Lol. They could also use a Mach 3 and bill $20 for the cartridge.

Same day, outpatient procedure.

I had to look up Lather Catcher; that is wild!

The pre-op nurse specifically instructed me not to shave the area because they'd do it for me. I assume they're not going to use a tallow soap ...

Am I the only one a little disappointed to find he isn't getting surgery to become a robot? :001_tongu

Good luck with it mate. Get better soon.

+1 don't shave yourself.
A nick could become a portal for skin bacteria to cause an infection after surgery. That is a complication you don't need!
And best of luck to you, sir!

Thanks for the well-wishes, gents!

@RaiserLiebe - good point about nicks and bacteria. Makes sense!

I had surgery back in July and they used an electric with a disposable head before I went under the knife. Good luck with the surgery.

Same, i was hoping B&B would have it's own Six Million Dollar man.

Best of luck with the surgery sir.

Well unfortunately I did not get to learn what razor or blade they used. I was chatting with the anesthesiologist and one of the nurses because all of us previously lived in California, and the next thing I knew I was in post-op.

The shave is not close at all, very stubbly. In-growns won't be a problem.

But hey the surgery went well I think! The robot works fast. If I came away with bionic parts, I'm keeping it secret.

As a bonus, the Muhle R41 I won in the Sue Moore charity auction arrived today and was waiting for me when I got home. Cool!

Glad you're ok! I had a similar reaction in pre-op for my appendix. Talking with the anesthesiologist, then the next second in post-op with zero memory in between.

I'd say the lack of closeness tells you they did it right: they didn't shave you, they used clippers. Shaving increases the likelihood of infection
