Hate to Love

Thirty minutes after trying Bvalgari Black for the first time the scent turned into something horrid akin to burned rubber/tire. I almost put the bottle on BST. The next time, I wore it differently by spraying from a couple of feet away and the difference was night and day. The scent was complex and very enjoyable. Now I am tempted to get a bottle of Encre Noire...

Are there any fragrances that you hated at first but now enjoy?

Oh yeah. The first was Mitsouko but I was early in my learning and didn't understand or appreciate it. It is now one of my favorite chypres ever made. The second was Kouros, which I put on right before mowing the grass in really hot summer muggy conditions. That was a mistake but I revisited it recently and fell in love.

More times than I can say. With a few exceptions, nearly all of my top 10 were not at all love at first sniff, but rather grew on me over time. There is something to be said for coming back to something even if you dislike it at first.

On the flip side, many that have been love at first sniff I end up not liking at all after 2-3 wearings, so it's important to test, re-test, and re-test again before purchasing.

Not here - I am usually far too stubborn for that :) I have changed from 'I hate it' to 'it's ok' on Essenza di Zegna (though I've still got about 97mL left), but that's about it.

The Dreamer still sucks.

EDIT - also, I'm trying to get myself to like M7 (reformulation with the one amber side on the bottle). It's not working, but I don't hate it as much as I did when I first blind-bought it.

I wasn't a huge fan of Geranium pour monsieur at first, but I grew to really like it.

Then the other night my ear grazed my sample and it bust on my floor.

I did not like Guerlain Vetiver or Grey Flannel the first go around. My nose had to acclimate to the new and sophisticated scents (read: not Curve) and now they both are solid parts of my rotation.
