Has Shavemac changed their D01-Silvertip hair?

I have a D01-Silvertip from Shavemac that I purchased in December of 2010. Compared to the D01 hair that is in production now, the older brush has less backbone and softer tips. Both of the brushes are equal in density. I'm curious to know if it has been changed. I'd like to hear other people's thoughts. Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm wondering the same regarding their regular Silvertip. I used to have an older Giant which was great but the new 23mm I just got has what appears to be like a gel like tip on it. When cleaning the brush it feels like I can't get the lather off for the life of me and I've read that that's indication of the type of hair being used.

Don't tell me that. After 3 years with just one brush I was looking into getting a Shavemac..

Animal hair isn't homogenous. It might just be that the available badger hair right now is like this. The next batch of hair will probably be different too.

I figured something like that. Shavemac brushes are still among my favorite. I'll have to send out to reset the knot on the older brush. I need more backbone.

I'm not at all saying that's a bad thing. To be honest, I prefer the new brush over the old one. Incredibly soft with just enough back bone. Excellent brush for sure.

If I compare my d01 2-band brush now to how it was about 9 months ago there is definitely a difference. The brush has broken in quite a bit and lost plenty of scritch as well as a little backbone...

I was just showing another possibility...

I have just received 2 Shavemacs from the TSN 2013 LE subscription with Shavemac - 1 is a D01 2 Band, the other the D01 Silvertip (3 Band). The 2 Band is as dense a brush as any other Shavemac brush I own (I now have 6, not including brushes I have bought from Rudy Vey using various Shavemac knots). The 3 Band is as fine a lather generator as any brush I own, I honestly don't find any significant difference with the older brushes and knots.
