Has anyone used Allen Edmonds' recrafting service?

Like the title says, has anyone used Allen Edmonds' recrafting service? If so, how pleased were you? I could have sworn there was a thread about it here, but I cannot find it :001_huh:

Hi Matthew - if you go to a site like Ask Andy About Clothes, they are generally very positive about it. When my pair of Strands got a hole in the sole I went with B. Nelson, but that was just because I wanted Joh. Rendenbach soles and AE only uses those for shell cordovan (I wanted a little bit stronger protection against New England elements).

If I went with the "standard" resoles, I probably would have gone with AE's recrafting service. One of the nice things about their service is that you can just bring in the shoes to a local AE retailer and they will ship it. I have to say that just putting my Strands into the UPS box to send to B. Nelson was a little nerve-wracking.

I haven't used them since the company was sold but then they were first rate. I don't think you can go wrong sending them back as you can't find any local craftsmen anymore who are worth a damn.

I have used the service more than once and was pleased with the results and the convenience.

Apparently neither they nor anyone else can do anything about uppers that are starting to crack, so there is a limit to what they can do and how close to new shoes are going to come out.

I guess I would say I am comfortable paying a premium to A&E over what a good local cobbler would charge. For instance, Correction Shoe Repair in Washington, DC seems to have a good national reputation, and I have been very satisfied with the work they have done for me. (They have gotten some mixed reviews on Yelp, but I have never had a problem. Usually very hard to park over there, though! <g>)

I do not think I would take any of my shoes to just some random place!

I just want to provide a brief update. I sent a pair of Nashuas and a pair of Park Avenues in about five weeks ago. I received the Park Avenues about three weeks ago and the Nashuas about two weeks ago. I paid $125 per pair. I am very happy with the recrafting. Both shoes seem a bit tighter, but the fit is perfect. What I really like is that the shoes look brand new, yet do not have to be broken in, which is great because I find Allen Edmonds a pain to break in.

All in all, I am very pleased with Allen Edmonds' recrafting service. I will use it again in the future.

I've used their recrafting service with fine results. The shoes weren't even noticeably tight. Just felt like they were new again is all.

I have the bags still in my box. I was also curious how they turn out. Can someone explain why they would be tighter once recrafted?

I have used the service 3 times over the years and each time they have returned as new and didn't need the normal break in period. I wouldn't buy high end shoes or boots unless this service was available.

Matthew , you live in Charlotte as I. Go by and see Larry at Paul Simon on Providence road & he will send them back for as they carry the brand. It won't cost you any more money. Larry is the manager & very nice guy. Hope this helps. Grayson

I used AE recrafting a month or two ago. They had very quick turnaround time and good workmanship. I went with the Cadillac package because I need trees and new polish anyway. They threw in a $35 gift card (which I just redeemed for a great deal on chukkas). I probably won't send to AE again, but I needed the shoes done, I don't have a local cobbler that I trust, and the few online places I looked at had comparable prices.
