Hart razors?

It was some time ago that we had a longrunning thread about Hart Steel Razors ... and I'm wondering how those of you who actually bought one of the razors have found it to be over the long-ish haul?

I placed an order for one the Friday they became available back in October last year, mine came with no issues and shave ready. I've used it once or twice a week at first (for maybe 5 months) and have had to rehone only once. It is now "Sunday" on a 7 day set of 'em.

They have been revised since then, the spines are a smidge thicker now, so no tape required if you choose not to when honing.

I've found them to be easy to maintain, hold a great edge for a long time and a joy to use.

On the negative, I found they spot and stain easy. I have a stainless polishing compound that happens to work well on all my razors and it seems to have "protective" effect on carbon steel, so I personally haven't had any problems after 2 or three applications to get rid of stains.

I feel it is money well spent.

My sentiments are exactly the same. The edges keep for a very long time and while they do spot some if left in humid conditions, some MAAS does the trick.

Since I keep staying on the fence about it I just added it to my Christmas list for my wife to order it for me:tongue_sm

Hmmmm, interesting. I've been thinking of adding either a Hart or a Bill Ellis Wapi to the collection.

Decisions, decisions.

Sounds like some pretty positive experiences with them. If they don't tarnish any easier than your average TI, then I can't fault them.

I have just got a Hart Steel a couple weeks ago, with round point and maple scales. Today I just received a 1/4 Le Grelot so I have another 1/4 to compare it with, but so far I really like my Hart Steel. THe hart is has a thicker spine and thicker tang so is a bit heavier than the Le Grelot and the LG has a slightly longer cutting edge. It will be interesting to compare how they shave.

I haven't had any problems with water spots appearing on my Hart or any other razor I have and I do not oil them after every use either.
But I live in the place that has very dry climate so there is no humidity problem..

No secret, I'm a big fan of Harts. I think the edge they take is amazing. One of the few razors I have that give me a BBS on a two pass shave. I've had no spotting problems yet so I can't comment on that. Two thumbs up from me.

No, I went with the french point or what I would call a rounded top square point. That matches my black scaled one.

Nice, I like the looks of those better too.

I just read somewhere else that you can now order them polished too. Not in the catalog yet, but classic can take your preference over the phone. Same with and without the jimps.
