Hairs on my Neck lay flat

I have a couple areas on my neck where my hair grows along the skin, not straight out like 'normal' hair does. It is very difficult to get them cut no matter how I shave, and what I use (so far).

I don't know if an open comb razor would work for this type of thing, or what I should be looking at or doing to try and get those pesky hairs zipped off my face.

Any suggestions?

When you say flat do you mean "side to side" also referred to as east --> west?

Most of the hair south of my jawline grows in the direction of one ear to the other (east to west). It is relatively flat against the skin.

What works for me, using both DEs and str8s is to start out with a XTG pass up from the base of the neck to the jawline.

Second pass is down, from the jawline to mid way down my neck

Third pass is a complex chevron (V shaped pattern) to get as close to ATG as possible without actually going ATG which is hard with a DE on a side to side neck growth pattern and damn near impossible with a str8!

Using this technique, I get BBS almost all the time now.

Try what I mentioned then...make sure you prep well and get some good lather underneath those whiskers...I almost guarantee that this process will work...with the caveat that YMMV!

Good post, scuba. I have about the same layout and have a lot of trouble getting BBS without red spots a day later. Especially on my left side (I'm right-handed). I was going straight from the middle out on the first pass, but that didn't seem to give me enough reduction. Now it's a complex chevron, like yours.

I've a lot of hair on my face is like that, flat against the skin and prone to ingrowns.
It's all about prep with them. I've found that using soap sticks and face leathering really helps with them since they get lifted up easiest that way. Also making very thick not to wattery/frothy leather helps a lot too with the stubborn ones. Give it a go.

I have similar issues and have found that experimenting with stretching the skin in different ways has allowed me a closer shave with less chance of irritation. I usually stretch on the second pass that is not fully going ATG. The stretching helps those flat hairs raise up enough to cut while not digging the blade in. Hope it might help with you.
