What's new

Haha...I'm saving money compared to carts

One of the internet sales aggregators found a deal on Mach 3 cart replacement blades. 12 catridges for $15. I chortled to myself, then did a quick calculation on how much I spent on sample packs, soaps and creams. LOL. Wet shaving to saves me money. Ha. :scared:

Yes, I find it kind of a joke too. While, I did like to sample items before B&B, my wet shaving probably was saving me money. Post B&B...Not so much.

Yes that is why I switched to wet shaving (still waiting on that durn DE to get in). Carts are WAY too expensive and I was using Schick Hydro or the Fusion from Gillette. After going to the store numerous times, staring at the carts, and kicking and moaning about the price I decided to look for an alternative. Found this site... Now it's all over, I'm never going to save money, too many razors I've been looking at and soaps and brushes and razors and brushes and soaps ... Oh did I mention razors?

Good Luck, it's a sickness, and I'm starting to feel it.:w00t:

Absolutly...no doubt about it...in fact something I am saving all that money on just arrived in the mail today! :001_rolle

Doug

I know it hard to believe, but shaving minimalists, like me, do save money. There are a few of us out there. We are the truly "old school" shavers.

You don't suppose that your grandfather had twenty razors, sixteen brushes, dozens of soaps and a ten year supply of blades, do you? It is we minimalists who are keeping genuine "traditional" shaving alive.

If you think about all the make up, creams, moisturizers , and such that my wife has used over the years I still have lots of catching up to do to even come close to the amount of money she has spent.

I plan to spend my first year buying lots of stuff and then really narrow things down to the point where I probably will be saving money.

Even if you're not a 'shaving minimalist' you are saving money. It's all on how you look at it. Do you have a razor/blade/brush/soap combo you always go back to? I'm guessing that yes, you do. That's your shaving gear & all you should use to price it. Anything else is the 'hobby' side and you are spending 'saved' money on it. It's money you can spend on anything in the world and you are electing to spend it on shaving supplies.

Straight razors.

High one-time investment, but after that, other than creams and AS (which you have with carts anyways), no future spending.

I should break even compared to my Fusions somewhere around July 12, 2076.

coming from a Fusion Proglide, saving money has been pretty easy for me so far. I've found it pretty easy to limit myself to just a couple creams and after shaves, and I love my EJ DE87 so much I have no desire to try another razor. The only problem is this nagging itch to buy a high end shaving brush.

Point well taken, but many B&B members find their wallets much lighter than expected, after making the change to traditional shaving AND joining our group.

Amen to that brother! Oh and it's okay if you let that "probably" go out the window.

I saw the light back in May and in just that short time the AD has just ruled me. It started with razors (like most of us) then went on to soaps and creams, then aftershaves, lately it's transitioned into fragrances (colognes, toilettes and parfums). The only thing my disorder hasn't targeted yet are brushes. And rightfully so, they are by far the most expensive to acquire. My shave den has quickly been encroaching on my lady's bathroom space. I now own many razors, lots of soaps and creams and enough aftershaves and fragrances to keep me smelling like anything but my natural self for the rest of my life. Lol.

I say give in to the AD. Enjoy it. Appreciate it for what it is. At the end of the day, it makes you feel good, which in turn should make your lady feel good. Besides, as men we all know there are other hobbies that are far more expensive that this little gem called "Traditional Shaving."

Spread the word!

You can definitely save money if you buy 1 razor, 1 brush, basic cream, aftershave, etc....but who wants to do that?!?!?!? I will say though, that BST is great for recouping a lot of your spent dollars!

We do save piles and piles of money on the blades. The fact that we chose to spend it on brushes and soaps should not enter into the equation.

Hey, we're also making the world a better place ;)

+1 Finally another sympathizer  By the way... what do you use and where do you buy it?

Just went to our new Shopco and saw that the Sensor Excel Plus cartridges I used to use are about $25 for ten - yikes!! On razors and blades, I have saved. Admittedly with what I have spent on creams, soaps and brushes, my costs have gone up. But so has my enjoyment level!
