"Splendid" brand?

The top looks narrow for a stick. I think the third word is soap, but I would not swear that it is meant for shaving.

I believe that it is soap for removing blood stains from a toga.....

but I could be wrong.

It says ideal/specific shave soap...based on the brand and packaging, may actually be made in Greece.

got some new info...yes ,it is manufactured in greece, some bizarre "powdered" form of shaving soap !...mix with water and whip with brush...not too good from what I hear, and now possibly discontinued, but still on sale at global ebay..

It might be worth a try anyway. Shaving soap powders used to be fairly popular, or at least widely marketed.

Here is a recipe ca. 1912.

it would not be the first one.

Shaving soap in "powder form" was something very popular among Portuguese barbers, specially in the 1940's.

Here's a photo:

Recognise the design from anywhere? Looks familiar?
Well, the current packages of the "O Melhor" line of shaving products, by Confiança (Portugal) is based in the package of this old "powder soap for shaving", from the 1940's. :001_smile How cool is that? :thumbup1:

Will let you know in a couple of months. I'm planning on unleashing my ESPAD (European Shaving Product Acquisition Disorder) over there. :biggrin1: Seriously, if the past few months are any indication, I'll have to save half a suitcase for shaving stuff!
