Greaves in Horn

I've had this blade on my bench for almost a year.
I did the scales yesterday afternoon. Honed it today.

I haven't finish-polished the scales here. Not sure I'm going to either. I do like the matte 'look' a lot - I think it goes well with the patina on the hollow of the grind.

Honey horn scales, brass pins, collars, and pivot washers. I added one stainless pivot washer to get the blade to close more on-center.
Honed on a loaner Nakayama Karasu - Botan, Tenjou, Mejiro, Koma, Nakayama Karasu Tomo,

This photo was taken just before I cleaned it up to hone the blade - the one above was taken afterwards.
The horn has an unusual sort of translucency or something - it's easier to see here.
These scales weren't made from the best slabs, but they'll work fine.

I like the big blades, nice work on the scales, nothing looks classier than horn IMO

I think the triple stacked washers throws the look off just a bit.

I think the unpolished horn compliments the satin of the blade. I agree a bit with Doc, I think the stacks are a bit big, and dominate the visual. They're well done, and look good, just a bit big for my taste overall.

Agreed -They are overly large for the width of the scales.
The choice was made based on function, not aesthetics.
Basically - the horn is a bit too thick.
Keeping the scales from separating at the wedge end wasnt working with conventional washers.

If the horn wasnt being problematic, I'd thin them down another 1/32 or so to get more flex out of them.
I really just wanted to shave with it after staring at it for so long so I just slapped it together pretty quickly just to get it done and off my bench.
Oddly, in use, the collars don't seem quite as pronounced as they do in pix.
If I decide to keep this one for a while, I may swap out the wedge and rework the scales.
