I was at the store next to the barber & saw the sign that advertised straight razor shaves. $12, might as well try.
The barber was a younger guy, under 45 or so, using a shavette (?) with feather blades. We talked about blades a bit, and he was interested in a standard blade. I showed him some pics of mine, and he asked a lot of questions about honing.
The shave was just so-so. The preshave prep was pretty good, lather was good, but the after lotion had a scent I didn't care for. He did two WTG passes, and one touch-up pass. Just about what I normally do. Overall, that's what I would say. I'm 2-3 months into wet shaving, and this was just about as good as I can do. I think part of the issue was that I'm caucasian, and I don't think they get many in the shop. There is a bit of difference in hair types, and he might not be used to it. He was a nice guy, though. Still, I think next time I'll just do it myself
