What's new

Got a promotion, so I need to reward myself with a suit

Now, which one is there better question? I have a few Ralph Lauren suits, and like them very much. I think I want something a little nicer though. I have a great tailor, so I am fine with ordering online too.

Any suggestions?

burberry? hugo boss? hickey freeman?

Ohh, that is a good suggestion. There is a Hugo Boss store just south of me, and I remember there was a good looking suit there.

I also like Nordstrom's Rack...sometimes there is really good stuff there.

Hugo Boss suits are really nice. They used to have an outlet store in Cleveland, where I grew up, and they had really great deals. Consequently, I wore nicer suits in my late 20s than I do in my early 40s!

Get one made for you. I'm fortunate to have a bespoke tailor nearby and the two suits he's made for me are simply wonderful. I got the first one as a special treat, and the pain of writing that check eased considerably once I realized I couldn't stop wearing it, sufficiently so that I later went back for a second and will probably be beginning my third in a few weeks.

I've got a Burberry that has been tailored but there's no comparison with the fit achieved as those bespoke suits were built around me over multiple fitting sessions. And because I saw them over the course of their construction, there's no question about canvassing or fusing or any such foolishness.

I wish I could get one made for me...I find it difficult to find "nice" suits since I am a 50R...

If you are going to spend big bucks for a suit anyway, you should definitely look into that.

+1 on the Hugo Boss. I have a dark blue single breasted 3-button suit that has been with me at least 10 years. Great quality and style IMO.

Have a look at Zegna. I'm a 48R/L and the best looking suit I've got by far is a Zegna and I've got Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren, Burberry and Valentino suits.

Congratulations! And don't forget to have brace buttons attached!
