Good badger travel brush

S

Please recommend a good, cheap badger travel brush. I have a Shavemac 23mm Silvertip as my everyday brush but don't want to travel with it.

I was thinking about one of the $35 C&E brushes or the Tweezerman which unfortunately that does not come with a travel tube, I would need a tube for it - where would I be able to buy one?

I don't have any opinion on a brush for you, but I do know of a good, cheap way to "roll your own" travel tube (as discussed elsewhere on B&B). Go to your local pharmacy and ask them for an empty pill bottle that will fit your brush, drill a few holes in the top for ventilation, and voila!

The medicine bottle for tube is good advice....any brush...you can find a pill bottle for it likely.

I favor the Wee Scot for my travel brush...right at your price point, but tiny which may or may not suit your style. Shoebox is where I bought mine.

Good replies, thanks.

I have a Vulfix 2234 that I was planning on selling. I only used it a couple of times as I like the Shavemac better. Maybe I should just use the Vulfix as a travel brush instead :)

Omega 21047 ?

Yes it is a mixed bristle brush but very good......and comes with a travel tube.........

I like the look of it. Now, where would I buy it from?

Got mine shipped to Tasmania Australia from Gary at Shoebox Shaving

I use it as a go to as well, not just when I'm travelling.

I'm actually away from home now and just about to use mine with a La Toja shavestick :001_smile

I use the AOS starter kit brush for travel, and I made a sweet custom travel tube out of a toilet paper tube and a copious amount of duct tape. Seriously, the travel tube works great, I even built in a retaining strap out of the duct tape, so the brush never gets sticky or falls out of the tube.

I was thinking about one of the $35 C&E brushes

I bought one of the C&E Travel brushes in Ivory a couple of weeks ago, and I'm very happy with it. It works great as a home brush, too, since that is all I have used it for so far.

I like the small knot size, and the handle fits in my hand just right, bottom flat against my palm, and fingers curled around the base of the hair, holding it a la Mantic style.

I've tried it with MWF and Tabac so far, and it lathers up a storm.

BTW, don't pay $35 for it ... C&E has frequent 20% off sales about every 6~8 weeks, so you can easily pick it up for $28. That's what I paid for mine.

I was just looking at the Tweezerman, $11.99 on Amazon.com. It comes in some transparent plastic package that could be used as the travel container ... Some are complaining that it's losing hair but when I travel it's not my drain that's getting clogged :)

For now I guess I'll take the Vulfix 2234 with me if I need to go anywhere before I get a dedicated travel brush.

+1 on Tweezerman.
Tweezerman is a nice cheap badger brush.
Get a pill bottle & make some holes is a great idea.

After looking at C & E brush with Tube, that looks like a good one.

If you want a tube go to Best Grooming and Shave tools, Tubes for $6

I have the C&E pure badger travel brush in black. It's nice looking and gets the job done o.k.

It's definitely on the small size. With my large hands it took a bit of iteration to establish the optimal grip, but I'm happy with it. It is very loosely packed and floppy (compared to my Rooney 2/1 daily shaver) and a bit scritchy but I got it for 20% off and I'd say it's a decent overall value.

I like that pill bottle idea! Otherwise I was also considering a C&E travel brush, the one I looked at seemed pretty nice for the price.

I saw some pretty cheap Kingsley badger brushes too, but I don't know much about them.

My main (only) brush is a T&H travel model. I think I lucked out with it, 'cause it makes some nice lather and, as a bonus, will travel, too.

The C&E travel brush is what I use, as someone said, wait for their sales. I got mine for some $11 when the local store closed:smile:
It is a great brush and the travel tube is very nice.

You could put new knots in vintage travel brushes like these:

Got the brushes with containers on this forum and knots from the Golden Nib.

Usually some good ones for sale on the forum if you don't mind a used one.

I traveled with a tweezerman and pill bottle for a while and was OK fine with it. But when someone posted a discount code for C&E, a month or so ago, I also purchased the travel brush. I am very happy with the C&E as it lathers as good as my tweezerman and takes up a lot less room in my travel kit.
