Good 1st boar brush?

I've been thinking about getting a boar brush to try out, and was interested in thoughts about the Omega 81052. How would it compare with the Tweezerman I currently have? Here's a pic of the one I have my eye on.

I just love the handle!

I haven't used either of the 2 you specifically ask about. However, I do have the omega 31064 which is as smooth as silk and which I use for both creams and soaps. I also just ordered 2 Semogues from Vintage Scent , the 1305 and the 2000. Do a search on these brushes and you will pick up a lot of information.

Another suggestion is to contact Gary at Shoeboxshave.com and ask him to recommend an Omega as he seems to carry close to the full line. It would help him if you could specify whether you bowl or face lather and whether you use primarily soaps or creams.

Welcome to the Board and best wishes on your future shaving.,

I'd got for the 31064 or the Omega pro 10049. Both work well with soaps and creams and available from westcoastshaving.com

I was very happy with my Omega brush!

Omega's are great brushes. I have one with, what I think is the same knot as the one you are looking to buy, and It has done very well for me. My semogue 1305 is substantially softer, but it costs a bit more, and the handle is a ***; chipped and peeling paint, scuffs, etc. all delivered from the factory.

If you can spare the dough I'd actually go with the best of both worlds and get the Semogue 830. It has a similar handle to that Omega, and won't be subject to the paint issues, but the knot will be nicer.

+1

If you like the smaller handles the 830 will suite you perfectly.

I have an 81052, the brush that the OP was asking about. I have also used a Tweezerman, and a few other brushes (see wiki URL in my signature for the list).

The 81052 would definitely be an upgrade from a Tweezerman. It's a good brush for face-lathering. Mine had fairly soft tips on arrival and with some time to break in the tips have become even softer. Over time the brush's feeling of density has also increased, as has its ability to hold lather. The backbone is excellent, comparable to a Rooney 3/1/F or Simpson's CH-1/S2. The 81052 isn't as dense as either of those brushes, of course, and it doesn't hold heat as well. But it's a fine brush nonetheless, and at the price it's an excellent value.

Thanks, Mblakele. I was hoping it would be an upgrade to the Tweezerman, or a nice companion brush so I could swap between the 2 in rotation. I think when the time comes, I'll probably pull the trigger on the 81052.

Any thoughts on the Omega 80056? I really like the "I'm a Boar and proud of it" look as opposed to the banded brushes, but this handle looks like an upgrade to most of the lower end models. Thoughts?

It's a smaller knot, but the bristle quality is the same as most of Omega's other budget winners. The handle is plastic and hollow, not solid acrylic resin like their more expensive brushes. It's a good brush like most Omegas.

I've got an Omega 31064... Before I got the Semogue 830, I thought nothing could knock it out of the box... The Semogue did it!

Great time to buy a Semogue also with the Euro down..

Echo that!

The 830 & 1305 have the same loft & knot dims. They are, however, quite different. Both are very good. If you are looking for something a little firmer the 620/1520 are excellent, especially at lathering face sticks or hard soaps.

I like the look of the Semogue 1470 - a borderline Eagle handle. Comes out pretty affordable, too. Haven't seen it mentioned, so i thought i would bring it up.

It is a good brush, a tad too "floppy" for my liking. The handle, though it is small, feels good.
