What's new

gong-fu its a commitment.

i'v noticed that the higer end teas (oolong and pu-erh) are a commitment style tea.. you have to be comitted to finsih the leaves off. you have to realy want to drink a lot of the stuff in a day before your able to try something different. i mean my shu i started a couple days ago... and i have still yet to do enough to use the leaves up. and now my gaiwan is full of BRR and i have like 6 more infusions to go with that too. greens are managable with their 3-4 infusions before expireing.

that and its expesaly hard when your the sole tea drinker in the house. (at least that dosent say it smells like cow****)

Hrm, then by your definition, I must be super committed.

I go 20+ (over a day and half maybe) infusions before I toss the leaves, I'm lazy and don't mind lol!

I know theres another guy in another thread (I think grasshopper) who goes 3-4 days.

i think im just being impatient and have "new toy syndrom" i recently got so many interesting teas and i want to try them all.. but i dont want to wast any of them.

If the leaves are still going strong and you've had enough, just make ice tea and drink it later?

Very few of my sheng sessions go over 15 infusions. Most times my shu sessions top out around 10. Oolong is even less (generally... fo shou varietals can just keep going).

I was about to ask about shu infusion numbers. With the 2008 menghai v93, how many infusions do you get? Also, when doing the later infusions how do you warm up the gaiwan again, or do you not do that again?

what i do is set the gaiwan in a dish of hot water. and just let it "almoast" float there.

For overnight tea storage, do you stick your gaiwain w/ tea leaves in it in fridge or just leave it out?

Carlin, what do you do on later infusions? Do you somehow warm the gaiwan or do you just pour in the boiling water and drink?

Small brewing vessels are handy. I love my 60ml gaiwan, I'd love to get one of the little 40ml yixing I've seen around.

If I'm leaving leaf overnight I tend to just fill with water, leave, and drink the cold brew in the morning before getting back to the brewing. Grasshopper mentioned drying out the leaf or using a thermos to extract as much as possible from the tea.

The folks at the Tea Gallery have passed the 8 week mark I think, but I get the feeling the tea being used was a little better than the stuff hiding in my tea stash.

My wife has also sublty hinted that if she finds out I've spent several hundred dollars on a 40ml pot then my straight razors will be used for more than facial hair.

edit: if the teas been lying out for a bit I like to flash rinse with boiling water first.

Then I guess, you will be staying away from this or else face Kill Bill-like consequences...:lol::lol:

I've just been informed there's a chance of me getting twice as much redundancy payout as I expected in a few months, so there's a flickering light at the end of the tunnel.

I love this shot from Brandon's blog:

so what do you guys think of the new area.

I used to go 2-3 days with the same leaves but as my palette grows I find it to be not as good as the same day, kind of tastes "mushy". If I brew sheng puerh Ill make sure I finish the pot in the same day and sometimes Ill drink three pots worth of leaves a day at about 12-16 grams 12-14 infusions last ones are "kill pots"
