Gold Dollar grind

I was modding a razor, and lopped off the tip.

It was a quite clean cut, and gave a nice view of the grind on these razors. You can see the even grind, and the "belly" from the full hollow.

Just thought it was kind of neat.

I love the encyclopedic knowledge of the Gold Dollar.

Honestly... it's still my favorite razor I've used. Granted, I don't have an EXTENSIVE collection, but that shanghai steel just works so well.

Very interesting, Craig. I think it's pretty awesome that you can turn a $2 razor into a respectable shaver, too.

What is even more surprising is that a hunk of sharp steel, which is what all straight razors are, should cost only $2, and yet most of us drool at, and have dropped over $200-300 & more for some of them...

I politely disagree regarding the price of a new razor.

$2 for a razor? Well, I've found them at the flea market for that price, but new from a factory? Let's get real. You could just get a piece of steel sliced for you at that price.

But making a razor is hand work. So add in the price of the grinding, polishing sharpening, honing, labeling, boxing and shipping (and let's not forget a decent percentage for the wholesaler and retailer) and you will quickly understand why a razor costs what it does.

Do any of you feel like making a straight razor for $2 ??

So why is a Gold Dollar so cheap? Because they pay their workforce super ridiculous wages.
