Godrej Shave Round

I'm just wondering how other guys found the Godrej Shave soap/round? Initially I found it difficult to lather but with a little more effort and water you can get quite a decent lather happening. One thing I have found is that you really have to work harder for a BBS shave but that the skincare is pretty good for such a cheap product. The smell I find nothing special. Any comments would be appreciated.:thumbup1:

I love the Godrej Round. I find it's easy to get good lather from, even if I dont wet the puck first. I consider it one of my best soaps, in spite of the price, like Arko. Sure to be in my rotation as long as I can get the stuff. The smell is unique... a bit like cinnimon and wintergreen?

I found it to be pretty serviceable soap, especially for the price. I don't mind the scent but to my nose it does have traces of gasoline or some other petroleum product. I do enjoy using it every once in a while though! :thumbup1:

It's funny with the scent. I recently acquired a second batch of soaps and they smell very strongly of Almond/Marzipan while the others have an unidentifiable medicinal scent. Now that you mention it, I can detect notes of cinnamon.

The Godrej Round is one of those products I call middle-ground products-- not something I would really look forward to, but also something I'd never complain about having to use either. Pretty good overall, and for the price it's amazing.

The Godrej Round is not made by the same people that make the Fabulous, cheap and well respected Creams.

Just for info.

+1

Excellent description! I couldn't agree more.

The more I use it, the more I like it. I wet my face and then rub the round all over my face like a shave stick. It works very well. The smell is different, but not bad.

I like it, but I find our super-cheap soap better (Van Der Hagen). It's certainly not a bad product by any means, and responds well to a boar brush.

Love the Godrej rounds. I too use them like a shave stick, but started out just loading the brush from the puck. Either way, I found it very easy to get a good lather. Subtle scent, very clean smelling, and can't beat the price.

Godrej Shave Rounds are a good product. Easy to lather, and produces a very nice lather as well. The smell isn't great but not hugely offensive either. :tongue_sm

Can someone please tell me, what is the diameter of these soap pucks?

I'm looking to fit one in a Seaforth mug, 2 3/4".

I like my Shaving Round a lot; one of those no-nonsense products of which you hardly think about but are good in every aspect and never let you down.

Edit; nemo, it is close to 58mm. or just over 2 1/4 (2.28) of an inch in diameter.

I like Arko shave sticks and VdH pucks a lot, too. Godrej shave rounds are ridiculously easy to lather. Seems like it takes a little soap and a lot of water.

Phil, pardon me but I am not sure that I understand. I take it that you mean that it is not made by the more popular Western brands.

The truth also lies somewhere else.

India is a shaving cream country and there are many good creams which abound. The Godrej Shave round is the only soap in India and the target market is a huge population who want their shaving to be cheap, and minimalist and who cannot or choose not to spend money on the luxury of buying a cream. Hence the soap has been kept very basic and cheap to manufacture. How I wish they add just that little extra moisturizing elements to it to make it that ultimate shave soap. But price drives it the other way.

In fact just yesterday I picked up a box of the shave rounds (72 shave rounds in mini cartons of 12 each) and the distributor was complaining that sales is down as the product price has been hiked by a mere Rs. 2

Rupees 2 hike !! May not even be noticed by most considering that its a rupee, however it appears that people have started taking one less shave to make up for such an insignificant price hike.

Contrast this with the Godrej shaving creams from the same company which are 3x the price of the shave round.
