Glycerin(e)?

I've heard some people mention incorporating glycerine with whatever soap or cream they're using, and I'm curious to try that. What I'm wondering is whether there are different brands/varieties I should look for or if glycerine is glycerine and I should just grab any old stuff I find. I also noticed some are labeled "glycerine" and others "glycerin", though I guess that's probably just a spelling difference.

Glycerin(e) is just nomenclature. You can find it in any pharmacy store.

I tried it a few times... didn't really see much of a difference.

I purchased a bottle at a health food store, then found a really nice glass bottle with rubber & glass eyedropper stopper.. Doesn't make it work any better, but it looks good...

glycerine:

Must be your skin that I'm sinkin in
Must be for real cause now I can feel
and I didn't mind
it's not my kind
not my time to wonder why
everything's gone white
and everything's grey
now you're here now you're away
I don't want this
remember that
I'll never forget where you're at
don't let the days go by
glycerine

I'm never alone
I'm alone all the time
are you at one
or do you lie
we live in a wheel
where everyone steals
but when we rise it's like strawberry fields

If I treated you bad
you bruise my face
couldn't love you more
you've got a beautiful taste
don't let the days go by
could have been easier on you
I coudn't change though I wanted to
could have been easier by three
our old friend fear and you and me
glycerine (repeat)
don't let the days go by
glycerine

I needed you more
when we wanted us less
I could not kiss just regress
it might just be
clear simple and plain
that's just fine
that's just one of my names
don't let the days go by
could've been easier on you

Great song! I nearly had forgotten it, didn't hear it for years! Thank you for remember me that!

According to the Spell Check of my browser:
Glycerine - English (UK)
Glycerin - English (USA)

I use it with cheap creams and soaps.
I think it makes a difference.
You can pick it up cheap from a drugstore.
It's worth a try.

I have tried it. I'm sure that it makes my lather shinier.

I'm not sure that it makes the lather any better.

However, I do use it in a concoction I put on my face at night before bed and sometimes use as an aftershave. The concoction is a mixture of witch hazel, aloe vera gel, and glycerin.

I think this stuff is pretty good for the skin, and it feels good, too.

No matter where you go, you're likely to only find one brand of glycerin. It's pretty generic stuff.

Superlather = Soap + cream
Uberlather = Soap + cream + glycerin

It's good stuff.

I have noticed that canned gels with glycerin are better than gels w/o glycerin.

For exemple, Gillette with glycerin is better than Gillette w/o glycerin, same thing with Edge.

Same with Nivea Moisturizing Gel (has glycerin) vs Nivea Sensitive gel (doesn't have glycerin).

Even though the Proraso cream I am using contains glycerin, I have seen that 5-6 drops enchance the performance. Glycerin from a pharmacy store is dirt cheap, so why not use it!

The best use I ever found for glycerin was to create lather on a soap that wasn't designed for shaving. My sister-in-law makes soap that smells fantastic, but designs it for conditioning of skin, which apparently makes for sub-par lather.

Lately I've been using Olivia's creams, and haven't had any need for glycerin.

Thanks for all the responses, gentlemen. It is appreciated. I still haven't picked any glycerin up, but when I do I'm going to try it with some Col. Conk soap; I love the smell of their bay rum but I can't say it's the greatest performer.

Today I used a can of Barbasol:laugh:. I wanted to compare how I used to shave to how I now shave. I can't say it was all that fun:tongue_sm

There are special recipes for making shaving soap. You actually add clay, I use Bentonite clay. See a recipe Here

If you ask nice now maybe she will make you a mug filled with it for the holidays.

John

P.S. Some shaving soaps are glycerin based and you can use them.
