Glock 27 vs. M&P 40c. What do you think?

Alright gun people... I am trying to decide between the M&P 40 compact and the Glock 27. What do you think? I would love to hear from those of you who have experience with both...

I know a lot of people seem to have a problem with the trigger reset on the SW... is it really an issue?

No contest, M&P. The Glock was originally designed for 9mm; the M&P was designed for .40 from the ground up. The M&P is very soft shooting for a .40 and is very slightly bigger than the Glock which gives you a better grip and slightly more magazine capacity. The M&P also has much better sights from the factory.

The Apex MP_RAM reset kit costs $23 and fixes all reset issues. Highly recommended.

Gosh...you want a quirky trigger reset...shoot a Sig with a DAK trigger! I've read so many complaints people have about the M&P's trigger and I really don't understand all the drama. Granted, the reset isn't as apparent as on other pistols, but with enough practice, you will develop the proper muscle memory needed to prevent short stroking it. Every firearm has a different feel and it take practice to make it an extension of your body. That said, I think both platforms are good performers, and of the two; my preference is the M&P because it feels better to me, and as a result I shoot better with it. I recommend you handle both, choose which one feels better, and go from there. Don't sweat the trigger.

I did a good bit of research between M&P and Glock before I bought my G22 and found that basically, the decision should be made on what YOU prefer. Both guns are about as equal in quality as 2 guns can be. You'll find things to complain about in each one, but they both go bang pretty much every time. I stopped my digging at the gun counter, so I haven't shot the M&P. I didn't need to to make my decision.

I chose the Glock 22 (was shopping for the 23, but it wasn't in stock) over the M&P because of the grip. I didn't like the way the M&P felt in my hand at all. Some love it, I just didn't like the odd bulges and overall feel. The glock grip, while some complain, fits my hand and the angle doesn't bother me. I'd advise you to get your hands on both, try the different backstraps on both (assuming gen 4 glock, but handle the gen 3 as well) and see what feels best. If that doesn't make your decision, borrow or rent both and shoot them side by side.

Oh, look at the 23 as well as the 27. You may find that the 23 isn't too big to conceal, if that's what you're after, and provides better grip. The sizes aren't really THAT much different between the 2.

Also, I'd stick with a .40 in either model. You have the option to switch barrels and mags and shoot .357 sig and 9mm out of the .40 cal guns. You can't move up from 9mm and do the same.

I wanna be sedated!

I have to agree with this. That is why my Glock is a 26. M&P in .40.

Great advice everyone...
Cody, a friend of mine made the very same suggestion about going with the 23 instead of the 27. Inside waistband comfort is what I am looking for, so I am going to check out the 23 with some IWB holsters tomorrow. If it feels good, then I won't have to compromise on mag capacity.
However, I am also going to try the full size M&P and compare with the compact.
Thanks for the tip on the reset kit, Little L. Now I know not to sweat the trigger issue. I am definitely looking for a 40, and like Bigfoot says, it was born a 40, not adapted.
The only thing I know for sure at this point is that I am prob going to be much poorer by this time tomorrow!
Thanks everyone!

Of the two, I prefer Glock. Honestly though, try to spend some trigger time with both. Most modern handguns are accurate and reliable - it boils down to what feels best in your hands and what you shoot best. I've got a soft spot for Sig handguns. They're not the most expensive, they're certainly not the best looking (although that's a matter of personal preference) but I shoot them as accurately as my custom 1911's that are considerably more expensive. The plastic fantastics are superb defense and duty weapons... but if you're looking for a tack driver that can also serve for the aforementioned - Glock and S&W semi-autos just don't make the cut for me (I have Glocks and an M&P by the way).

My .02 - with firearms, buy once and buy right.

I struggled with the 2 myself, decided on the Glock. Judging from the split you wont find any guidance here!

Being a lefty, I would prefer the S&W. But I own a Glock 35. It shoots great but the extended mag release digs into my hand making it somewhat uncomfortable. I only bought it because I got it for an amazing deal from a friend that was selling it. I realize this doesn't apply to you. Cant go wrong with each gun.

My next purchase will probably be a M&P in 9mm(shield or full size).

I've had the M&P 40c for a couple years love it. The handgun is a freight train it just fires and fires round with no malfunctions. Adjustable grips a plus. Only grip was slide release was super tight hard to release with one finger loosened up now though.
