Gillette Travel Tech Under-Valued?

Question... Is the head on the Gillette travel tech the same head that's on the regular tech?

The reason I ask is the travel tech's seem to be super cheap for their condition. For instance, they almost always seem to be in mint to near mint condition (since they were more of a novelty item) and they seem to sell for $5 - $10. To my naked eye, the head seems to be the same as the regular-sized tech, which is one of my favorite razors. So, why not buy the travel tech and put the head on your favorite handle and Poof - an almost new, great razor for little to nothing! :001_tt1:

Good point. If you have a handle for it and you just want to get a pristine Tech head dirt cheap, a travel Tech may just be the way to go. I do believe the heads are identical to the regular Tech line.

I often read where the Tech is billed as a beginner's razor, is this so? I was going to get one, or two, but am concerned that they might be too mild. Any user experience to share--I'm interested.

Beginners razor for sure as they give a safe comfortable low irritation shave with most blades, I hae found that when using a Polsilver blade they give an almost perfect shave.
Don't overlook the Tech it's a great razor.

Jeez, there goes the price on the travel techs. :glare:

Seriously, you can take one of those travel tech heads and screw it on to anything that has #8-32 female threads. A trip to the hardware store will find a couple of options for threaded inserts.

The options presented are nearly endless. Why I haven't done this before is a mystery, but this thread may get me off my butt. Screwdriver handles, cartridge cases, pens, darts, old toothbrushes...I bet we could even have a "Where I stuck my Tech Head" contest!

That's my project for the week. 30-06 Tech, here we come!

The fact that they are great for beginners often leads to the mistaken belief that experienced users should move on to something else. I used one initially then went over a year without Pickering it again. I was stunned when I picked it back up and found what a fantastic shave resulted. Since then, I've purchased a second Tech. Out of my dozen razors, it is my favorite. For quality of the shave, I would even pick it over my much more expensive #15.

Just got a Tech travel with 2" handle and put an EJ handle on it. I'll have my first Tech shave tomorrow. I am so excited to shave with the Tech. I put it to my face after cleaning and loading it (Astra SPP)--I did drag it down my side burn for couple inches--felt g o o d! This may be one of the most practical razors (design and simplicity) ever manufactured. Why did the U.S. ever move away for DE razor manufacturing? WE made some damn nice razors. The Tech and the Super Speeds are a living tribute to King C...
