Gillette tech

Are Gillette tech razors in production at present? And are they (unused razors) available in the market?
Those who use 1979 Gillette tech razors, how do you rate the razor?

The Gillette Tech razors are not being produced currently. I believe that Tech production ended in 1973:

There are razors currently produced by Gillette outside North America, but they have a plastic handle and they don't hold a light to the Techs of yester-year. The razors being made by Gillette are Gillette 7 o'clock, and Click, see below.

Gillette Tech razors are fantastic for those who prefer a milder, less-aggressive razor. They are a great choice for first-time DE users, and many use them as a travel razor due to their low cost.

They commonly sell for $5-$15 depending on condition. Although not in my regular rotation, I have a Tech or two and will grab one on occasion.

There were Tech razors produced at least until 1979 or so- the web histories are inaccurate about 1970's and 80's Gillette production to a great degree. They were called the "3 Piece Razor" and had a UK made head and a US made aluminum handle. They came in a medium to dark blue blister pack for the US market.

They are still an excellent razor, but the handle is a little light (though apparently the same aluminum handle they used previously)......

Vintage grooming sets seem to include a Tech razor quite often. Auctions for these tend to slip under the radar and go for low prices because they may not show up in searches etc. I used one for the second time today, they are brilliant! They almost look like toys, being so small and light compared to my Futur. But they work great.

Thanks for the clarification, I learned something new today. I have not seen a Gillette Tech from the late 70's early 80's. Most of my Techs are from the 40's-60's. I guess I am gonna have to hunt one of those also

The earlier Tech from the late '40s had a heavier head and came with different handles. The "fat handle" was hollow and lighter, giving the razor a more head-heavy balance. The "small ball" handle was smaller in diameter and knurled for a better grip, but changed the balance significantly.

There was also a bakelite plastic handle produced in the '40s and '50s.

The later head, with the word "Gillette" stamped on the top cap, was lighter, and along with the aluminum handle did not (IMO) shave as well as the older ones. This same head was also used on about a bazillion "travel razors" with a very short (<2") version of the ball-end handle.

A lot of the travel razor sets from the '60s exist still today in unused condition. Many were given as gifts and never used by the man who preferred using a "real" razor. Couple one of those heads with a standard-length handle and you have a winner!

Hard to beat a ball handled Tech for a great shave I have others in my rotation, but I have 2 ball handled Techs that I use regularly...both were new/unused old stock in the box...at leat they looked new and were advertised as unused...I have owned several others, that I gave to family and friends. A great starter and a fun razor to have in the rotation...one of mine is my travel razor
