Gillette Tech Handle Differences

Is there a difference between the ball end Tech with the "knurled" handle and the ball end Tech with the X "criss cross lines" type handle besides possibly date of production?

That sounds like the brass handle vs the later-model aluminum handle? I would expect that the razors with the older handles are a bit heavier.

+1 I have one with the x pattern and it's made of aluminum. They were made later and I don't think they shave as well.

One difference that sticks out to me is the difference in the head design, which you don't notice at first until you look at the edge of the head. In the 50's Tech, the plate and top pieces press up against each other but don't interlock as much as the 60's style head does. With that, and the difference in metal type, they would shave quite differently I'd imagine.

do you think there is any notable difference in the handle besides the pattern? like the weight maybe?

Absolutely, the aluminum handled ball end would be a much lighter razor that the other tech.

My experience hasn't been the greatest with the aluminum razors, they don't seem to shave as well. If you're looking to buy a tech, I'd suggest the 1940 Gold Tech. The weight is fantastic and offers a very mild but REALLY GOOD shave.

aren't both of those british ball end techs (50s and 60s) aluminum? I really dislike the gold color so I need something silver looking.

YW!

That should give a good shave but pretty mild. It's not aggressive and would be a great place to start, my Gold Tech's are pretty much just a gold version of that razor and having dozens of razors in my inventory to use, that is by and large one of my favorites.
