Gillette Sensor Patent

Shouldn't gillette's patent on the senor and therefore the spring-loaded blades be expired by now? If it is, why haven't I seen any generic sensor carts with spring-loaded blades. I only see personna carts that have fixed blades. I would think that there would be lots more competition with carts since that patent expired.

It might be that the spring-loaded blades are more difficult to make. If Personna does make some, I hope they are comparable in shave quality to the TracII blades they make.

I hope we begin to see them soon. I find the sensor excel gives me the best shave of any cartridge razor, but they are quite expensive compared to the auto plus replacements for the Atra. The Atra gives an acceptable shave, the sensor gives me a good one.

Here you go sir!
Walgreens &
Personna

These might actually be the same thing. I managed a Walgreens for about 3 years, and we used to sell Personna's disposable Speed 3 razors under our store brand. I would venture a guess that most of Walgreens generic razors are Personna.

Actually they are the same thing. The Personna site says that all these places sell their razors under their store brand:

Bi-Mart, CVS, Freds, Giant Food, H E Butt, Meijer, Publix, RiteAid, SaveMart, and Walgreens

Happy hunting!

Yes, Walgreens sells the same thing. And has several store brands made by Personna.

However, these are not the same as a sensor or sensor excel. I've tried them and, frankly, I found they sucked. My guess is they can't make the same thing due to patent so they made the best clone they could without getting so close as to infringe the patent. Just not the same.

I agree 100%, just plain inferior.

The cheapest way to get Sensor blades (the three-bladed variety) is to buy the disposables when they are on sale.

actually for a couple of years before i switched to DE i was using a cartridge from my local safeway store that was a double blade for the sensor, and it was maybe better than the gillettes . also came six to a pack and by watching for the sale ads i could load up at a really good price.

I am not sure having "flexible blades", and being "spring loaded" are quite the same thing.

They're not. Flexing blades are like the old Schick Tracer; they bend, but they are fixed in their housing. If one is specifically looking for the spring-loaded, "floating" blade design incorporated into Sensors (as well as Mach3s and Fusions), Gillette is still the only maker at this time.

I suppose that's true, but some of us (myself included) might go so far as to say that if it has three blades, it's not really a Sensor - just a Mach3 in Sensor's clothing.

i tried the Personna cartridges..damn couldnt throw them in the trash fast enough. the thing-a-ma-jig thats supposed to lift the hair was like sandpaper. No where near as comfortable as the Senor Excels rubber fins.

I just got 6 wks of shaving (i think i may have missed 1-2 days) out of an Excel cartridge so $18 for a 10, pk i gotta stick with Gillette. i only stopped with that blade because it got a tad rough ATG under my chin and figured 6wks with one cartridge is pretty darn good.
