thanks for the quick reply. I paid £16 for it on ebay, do you think this is a fair price? Also is it a suitable razor for newb?

That is a very fair price and it is a well respected razor and should be fine for a newb. That said, the fact that it is an adjustable has a tendency to lure the user into playing with the adjustments way too much. First, always loosen the twist to open (TTO) knob when adjusting. Second, start at a low setting such as 3 and do not change for a few shaves. Then you can increase the setting to a 4 and give that a try for a couple of days. Continuing increasing over time until you reach a point that you feel is too aggressive and back down to the highest comfortable setting and stay there.

After developing a flawless technique you may want to start changing the adjustment for different passes. Some people like to make a second and/or third pass at a slightly more aggressive setting. Others like to make additional passes at a lower setting.

But, as with all razors, be patient and let the weight of the razor do the work. Avoid adding too much pressure.
