Gillette President: the one that got away

There are some on ebay now. Is there anything special about the Gillette President?

They are an excellent razor. The shave is very very smooth and effortless. Every DE shaver should own a President or Diplomat (a gold version of the President) at some stage.

The President, Diplomat, Executive and Aristocrat are the deluxe razors sold by Gillette in the TTO era. They are more rare and have more deluxe cases and perhaps better plating then their more common siblings.

i'm assuming the seller ended his auction early because I remember 1 person already placed a bid. he probably realized how much the President could fetch and pulled it. how sneaky

Why would he pull it if he knew how much it would bring? I would think a bidding war would raise the price higher than selling at a BIN price. With Gillette, president, and safety razor in the title, it was easy to find.

because the starting bid was only $9.99 and there was already 1 bidder with not much time left in the bid. my guess is the seller either a) ended the auction early because they were afraid of getting lowballed or b) someone made an email offer as Oldguy suggested.

Doesn't eBay have rules about cancelling auctions just because the price isn't high enough?

Im dont think there is anything stopping sellers from pulling theyre listings - even having bids on them doesnt seem to matter.. i reckon this shouldnt be allowed - too many email offers and dodgy business which in many cases prolly gets the seller less money and doesnt give other buyers a shot

I fully agree. I would think that in 100% of the email offer purchases the seller did himself a large disservice. The seller doesn't know enough about what he's selling and is too greedy to realize that if an offer came in, especially very early in the listing, that it's most likely worth more then the offer.

I assumed (incorrectly?) a seller could not pull an auction once a bid has been made. If my bid is binding shouldn't it be so for the seller?
Am I wrong or is this something Ebay just doesn't bother to enforce?..:confused1
