Just picked up a NEW and a flare tip for 1.50 each this afternoon at my local thrift shop. How am I going to like the NEW?

You will love it. The SS ain't bad either.
The NEW you found is a long-comb version. I just picked up a short-comb version, and just had a week of great shaves with it loaded with an Astra SP. Got a two-pass BBS, without the touch-up I usually need. I've heard that the long-comb version is either milder or more aggressive than the short-comb, depending on who you ask.

Nice score! Great price! The NEW is an excellent shaver, although I find the handles small and light. I love mine mated to a RazoRock SLAB handle. The flair tip is just a smooth mellow shaver. They make great loaners and gifts for fence-sitters!

I'm gonna hope for the more mild! Looking forward to the SS but I'm sure it'll be somewhere between my NDC and Red Tip.
I wouldn't say the long comb is really that aggressive, just very efficient. Probably my favorite head design that Gillette ever made, besides the British version.
I bought a New LC about 2 weeks ago. The first couple of times I shaved with it I thought it was pretty aggressive. I had been shaving with a Muhle R89 and a Merkur 25c (mild open comb razor) mainly, so the New was really just more of a change. Shortly thereafter, I won a 2013 Muhle R41 in a PIF and started shaving with that. Holy cow batman, was that an aggressive razor.
I went back to the New this week and shaved with it every day. I gave myself one bad nick, but other than that the New felt smooth and comfortable. You have to use a rather shallow angle in my opinion, but once you find the angle that works for you, the New is an efficient and excellent shave. I have a heavier handle on the way to try with it.

Very nice finds, I've never seen a razor yet at any of the thrift stores in my area. I haven't used a New but I think you'll find the flare tip is a very nice razor.
