Gillette new head, TTO, what can this be?

I won this auction, but unfortunately the seller removed pics before it arrived. He/she said it was a gillette, but I ignored that thinking that like many other sellers, he was just talking about the type of blades that it uses. The pictures he had up made it look like some sort of shake to sharpen. But now that it is here I am very puzzled.
It is a gillette new head, on a TTO body unlike any I've seen. The cap rises up and lowers to the side. This doesn't look like a homemade machine-shop piece, but what other razor could the handle have come from? Could it be a prototype? Has anybody seen a patent that looks like this?

I saw that auction and I remember clearly thinking that they mislabeled it as a Gillette but it looks like it might be something very unusual. It's be well worth doing some homework on it. Send some pics to Gillette and see what if anything they've got to say.

There are. It is a New head, logo stamped on bottom. What I'm wondering about is the handle. It's no homemade piece. The case that it's in could be. The bottom of it is unfinished, or perhaps modified from some other case, also of a type I've not seen.

I think european is right. The handle looks similar to a Peroni. And certainly doesn't have any kind of Gillette vibe to it.

You know, the more I look at it, the more it grows on me...the design definitely has merit...in fact, IF it holds the blade secure...you can get it re-plated for a truly amazing looking razor right out of a transformer episode

I was watching that one also. I figured it was a surgical kit tool, but that was just a guess.

I do like finding the oddballs, perhaps even more than Gillettes.

Heh. My hopes of finding out who made it are fading quickly.

OH COOL!

I just figured out why the sharp blade compartment is the way it is, and why the blades fit just a little tight on the bar. You stick the head of the razor down into the new blade compartment, and out comes a new blade loaded on it!
Definitely bringing this one to West Chester with me this October.

edit: doh! I see that I did indeed see that auction! I was the first bidder but never came back to it!
edit edit: I also see that I purchased it from the same guy who won that auction, and for half that.

Brian, that adjustable neck peroni I've seen here a couple of times...that's still a conventional razor with a funky-adjustable neck...but this one is seriously cool!!

I knew they were different, but there was just something about the adjustability of the neck and the profile of the handle that vaguely reminded of the one that amish found.
