Gillette Fat Handle Tech 1932 Canada

The razor came complete with (original?) Bakelite box.

Perfectly good, usable condition. May get it replated, may not...

PAT. Canada 1932. Triangular slot. Probably made between 1940 & 1950. Apparently these are slightly more aggressive than the later Techs.

The head top & sides show slight wear & a couple of very small knocks.

The underside of the head is in very good condition for age...

... as is the blade plate.

Comparison with a DE 89:

On my admittedly not brilliant electric scales, the DE89 is 75g & the Tech 50g.
Soon to be loaded with a Feather blade. after a quick wipe over with Dettol & rinse in boiling water.

dont think that needs a replate, a polish with something like peek and that will come up great, its not bad as it is to be fair.

thats came up great, i knew there would be no need for a replate with that razor, it was in fine condition, peek polish is the best i have used, after wasting cash on other polishes, which were to be honest garbage.

Baptism of fire this morning.
5 day growth.
10 minute shower, TOBS avocado & a 60+ year old Tech with a Feather blade & quick 2 pass WTG/XTG.
Result was near BBS. Amazing bit of kit & this may replace my DE89 as my go-to razor.

yep they are a well made razor, heres a pic of mine next to ball end tech, both made in england, mine has the flat slotted base plate.$razor 2.jpg

I just bought a nickel plated tech and have yet to try it out! I have the same version as you with the slotted base plate. The anticipation is building..

they are real nice razors, i got mine in one of those old leather cased shaving sets, i just bought it for the razor, it was cased in i nice velvet lined chrome box.

I decided that I'd try to settle the debate about how much more (if at all) aggressive the FH Canada 1932 Tech is in comparison to regular Techs.
I used various settings on a feeler gauge as per the B&B article http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Double-Edged_Safety_Razors_Ranked_by_Blade_Gap
And the results was
$IMG_0002.JPG

The fingers shown above went across the entire length of the gap on both sides with hardly any resistance at all.
So the blade gap for this razor is 0.67mm as opposed to 0.56mm for regular Techs.
That makes it slightly more aggressive (in terms of blade gap at least) than a US Red Tip!
I'll add my findings to the above link.

Been using the Tech + Feather combo for the past month or so virtually every day.
I'm going to rest it for a week or 2 & use the DE89 + Personna blades.
The Tech was pretty dirty, so I gave it a good polish with the Peek.

I've heard that the base plate on a Tech can determine how aggressive it is. Could someone post an image of the different base plates and which is considered more aggressive? I'm new to the Tech and would love to learn more about them as I just took possession of one thanks to a considerate member here at Badger and Blade.

Most people agree that the Techs with triangular slots (pre war) are more aggressive:

Post war Tech with oval slots, the milder version:

There's also the English Flat Bottom Tech, some say it's more aggressive/efficient than both pre and post war US versions:
