gillette adjustables versus merkur 34 HD

I used my merkur 34 ' HD' for the first time in a long time today...and whilst it was a close shave, it felt like an aggressive one. I usually shave with Gillette adjustables [rotation of slim/FB/super adjustable] and these days I rarely set them above 5. I used a fresh Bolzano blade today and used one the day before with the Slim set at 4. Is it me or is the HD a lot more aggressive that the gillettes?

Obviously it would depend what setting you had the adjustable on.

For my moderately coarse beard a Fat Boy on 4, a Slim on 5, and my Merkur HD all shave very similar as to closeness and comfort.
