Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge

Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge (Russian made) in a head to head with the infamous Gillette Super Stainless "Spoiler" of circa 1978.

Loaded in two identical razors (1959 Gillette Tech) for a side by side trial run.........and the verdict is: I couldn't tell the difference between them in day 1 using Aqua di Parma shave cream.

Spoilers usually last between 5-6 shaves for me, I think this is where they'll win in the long run. I seriously doubt the Gillette Sharp Edge can get me there with comfort and safety.

I will post my final verdict in a few days.

I really like the Gillette Yellows ... but I'm really pushing them if I try to go more than three days. For those three days, though, they're very, very good.

Did day 3 today. I think I can do a 4th.
Will report back.....

I like yellows as well I get the most shaves out of them. a few times I have gone up to 5 shaves. but I try to keep at 3 then I toss any blade.

Well they come damn close to the famous Spoilers! So any poor soul who has not had the opportunity to try them, these Gillette Sharp Edge are a good substitute. I have a nice stash of Spoiler which I will stop using if these do the trick. I'll let the vintage age gracefully, and use them at some other point in time.

So I did finally get 5 full 3 pass shaves with this blade.

Next day, I went back to a Spoiler while it was still fresh in mind. So what can I conclude? A few things....

1. The Gillette Sharp Edge is a tad sharper than Spoilers.
2. The Spoiler is a tad or two smoother than the Sharp Edge.
3. I can likely push the Spoiler past 5 shaves if I wanted to.

Given their history, there is more nostalgia associated with the
Gillette Spoiler, however their availability is rather limited! The Sharp Edge is a great alternative.

I have just tried my first 7 O' Clock Sharpedge and believe me, I did not get such an outstanding shave until I used this piece of steel. I have used Feather, Gillette Silver Blue, Derby and Astra SP. Feathers are, as everyone knows, sharp but not at all lasting: I get just one comfortable shave with a Feather. Derby burns my face. Astra SPs have some problem with the quality control: you get good shave from two or three of them and then one blade comes out that burns your face as if someone has slapped tightly and badly on your face. I heard a lot about GSBs but they have disappointed me; I did not get even a single comfortable shave.

YMMV! I think that I am sold to Sharpedge.

These last my wife 6 shaves. 6 leg shaves. Think about that.

The Yellow earned a place in my heart as the second blade I ever tried (the first being Derby) and I saw an instant improvement in my shaves, even with my slowly developing technique. They have become the blade I measure others against in terms of sharpness, smoothness, and longevity. There are sharper blades, smoother blades, and (if you count P74s) longer lasting blades but I've not yet found a better balance. Even when distilled to "cost per shave" after setting a minimum acceptable smoothness and sharpness, these still win out for me with IP/Crystals, Personna Labs, and Gillette Permasharps being in the same ballpark.
