Gibbs 16 (+-) razor - opinions

Hello gents! I can’t find any real discussion about the Gibbs 16 razor. This razor somehow attracts me but I would like to know how mild/aggressive it is, how efficient and how it compares to other razors more mainstream. Thank you!

I smell like a Christmas pudding
I use a Gibbs #14 and also a metal #16 which offer a very similar shaves, but are different in that the #16 has the posts on the cap rather than the base plate and is about 20g heavier. Both are superb razors with + and - sides and for me offer a superior shave to the adjustable which I found very unbalanced, so much so that many owners replace the handle. I do not favour adjustables myself although the Gibbs mechanism is beautifully elegant. Standard blades are very easy to modify, many people go to great lengths to make equipment to modify them but I use a simple hole punch as shown below. It works well but I estimate that it spoils about one in ten blades.

They are beautiful razors for sure. But I am interesed in some specifics:

1. What material are they made of? (brass, zamak, something else)
2. Where do they sit on the mild-medium-aggessive scale?
3. How do they compare with something like Rockwell 6S?
4. Do they fit with a standard Razorock handle?

I’ve got the answers to all my questions:

1. It is made out of brass;
2. It is a medium-aggressive razor, much more blade exposure and blade feel than I expected, even on the - side; The blade gap also seems to be higher.
3. There’s no comparing to Rockwell 6S, the smoothness of 6S is unmatched;
4. It has the perfect handle, it’s a work of art, it doesn’t need to be replaced.

What else I noticed:
- the regular blades sit tight on the cap middle pin so if you trim the ends of it you can adjust it without any problem or drama;
- the top cap has irregularity issues so the blade cannot be properly alligned, I don’t know if that’s the problem with all of the Gibbs…

I only had 1 shave with an already used Astra blue, it didn’t go smooth, I’ll try Feather next time.

I didn't like how the razor shaved, it bite me because of the uneven cap level that translated into the blade. Also the blade exposure and gap were too high for me.

I took the liberty to level both the top cap margins and the base plate protrusions. It feels better when i glide my finger on it but i didn't have the chance to shave yet. I'll come with updates after shaving.
