GFT Spanish Leather

Hey Gents,
I've been on a heavy soap kick recently. However, dragging out an old tube of Musgo Real Spiced Citrus has me wanting to get in on some shaving creams. I am very intrigued by the GFT Spanish Leather shaving cream and was wondering if anyone has experience and can lend their opinion in the cream. I wish T&H had a cream to go along with their aftershave and cologne but alas I've not seen one. Thanks Gentlemen.

I haven't tried Trumper's Spanish Leather cream myself, but it's at the top of my list to buy next. Over on another shave forum that I belong to, several experienced wetshavers whose opinions I respect have high praise for SL cream. They say that Trumper really 'got it right' with this one, and that it's one of the few creams, in their opinions, that has been translated from a cologne in a well executed fashion. The only complaint has been (and it's a minor one) the plastic tubes it comes in as opposed to Trumper's traditional aluminum tubes.

I love Spanish Leather from GFT. If it came in a tub I would already own it but for now it only comes in a tube. If you like a sandalwood scent you will love this.

GFT SL is my favorite current production line. T&H used to make a better aftershave and cologne but they reformulated it seven or eight years ago. I still have some of the old cologne but use it sparingly. The GFT SL cream is only available in tubes and I won't normally buy creams that way. Last week I broke down and bought a tube to try with a new M7 Briar that was in the mail from Mark on the Isle of Man... Gave it a go this morning. Both the SL cream and Briar brush hit the spot. BBS shave when paired with Simpsons pre shave oil and my 6/8 Hart. I will be keeping GFT SL cream on hand. As you can see I have no intention of ever running short on SL aftershave or cologne. $Spanish Leather Post.jpg

It makes a nice lather, but I find the scent to be too perfumy. I'm one of the few who don't care for the scent, YMMV.

I'm glad to hear it is pretty well regarded. I definitely think I am going to have to order some when I get paid next.

One great way to begin a long day is a shave with the Spanish Leather Shave Cream, followed by a splash of the Spanish Leather After Shave followed by a lite application of Spanish Leather Cologne! Obviously I'm not the best source concerning the efficacy of the cream, given my obsessive use of this scent!

So here is another question. When looking at aftershave and cologne is the GFT version good quality stuff or am I better off spending the extra money to get the Truefitt & Hill Spanish Leather AS and Cologne?

In my opinion the GFT Spanish Leather is far superior to the T&H cologne by that name. GFT's version contains some rectified birch tar and lots of classic leather notes (unlike Russian Leather, there's only a little bit of birch tar and no smokiness). It's a straight forward and classic Spanish Leather scent. T&H's Spanish Leather, by contrast, has been reformulated into essentially a modern department store scent. It's a pity too, since before it's reformulation a few years ago T&H Spanish Leather was a great old school Spanish Leather cologne that was similar to but heavier and sweeter than the GFT version. T&H ruined this cologne with its last reformulation. The other great Spanish Leather cologne is SMN's Peau de Espagna, which is a pungent leather cologne that's spiced with linaloe resin from Brazil.

Thanks so much Craig. I am glad to hear that as GFT is about $20 cheaper or so. I can't wait to pick some of this stuff up
