Getting back into video gaming

I have a Playstation 2 and wouldlike get back into gaming. I have been interested in the Xbox 360 platform and kinect. What makes the Xbox a better system than Playstation? I would like to upgrade once I get a LED 47inch 1080 TV. What are some of the things I should know about Xbox? What do I invest in?

Best,
Jerry

I have both the PS3 and the 360. I prefer the games on the 360 by far. Kinect is also awesome. Xbox would be my choice.

As someone in a similar situation, I recently picked up a 360 in part due to Sony's terrible service decisions recently (and getting my info stolen from my PSP account.)
The 360 is a good choice if you like older games as well as the triple A stuff. I'm a big fan of the company Treasure, who threw their support behind it. The LiveArcade has a lot of great titles. One warning though, the Live community of gamers is still pretty terrible. It's like BnB's polar opposite. It's getting better as so many people keep getting permabanned, but it's still not great.

PS3 ... I just sold my 360 ... seems I went through too many controllers that were constantly breaking ... and I still have my original XBOX with its original controllers still working ... some 7 years now.

+1 Console games have never been as good as PC IMO.

PC games just have a lot more to them. Keyboard and mouse (sometimes 10 button joystick for flying) trump a paddle.

Not to mention constant improvement in hardware and software technology. A console is a console...it is what it is until they release the next one.

What if you want to relax on a couch? How will you play those PC games then?

wireless keyboard and mouse? regardless, I prefer consoles.

And to answer the OPs question, I have both the PS3 and XBOX360. PS3 gets used for streaming MLB.TV and a PS3 exclusive once in a while and that is about it. Otherwise, XBOX for all my gaming.

I have a PS2 but it mainly gets used for Singstar karaoke. Our main gaming rig in the Nintendo Wii (Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, NBA Live, NCAA Football). And I love PC games too. Download Steam and go to town. Especially if you like FPS games -- the keyboard and mouse are the best. And you can also connect a Logitech or even an Xbox 360 controller to your PC to use for gaming.

I have a ps3, Super Nintendo, NES, GameCube, and I love them all. I'm a huge gamer. I'm playing Resident Evil 5 right now.

Xbox vs ps3 is like starting a thread titled "badger vs boar - which is better?"

I still prefer the Super Nintendo over gaming systems that came before and after.

Its sort of like asking if you prefer a mac or a pc. In this case, Sony is Mac, and Xbox is pc. The PS3 does everything well, but only with its products. I like older games, so I'm sticking to the NES or handheld Nintendo stuff. YMMV, of course! Or, you could get both!!

I used to be a major PC gamer, through and through. However, I got tired of the need to upgrade my system every 6-12 months with a new graphics card, or more RAM, or a better processor, etc. Plus I had a shiny new 60" plasma in the family room that was crying for some game nights with friends... And a PC isn't good for multi unless everyone is playing from somewhere else or you've got a big LAN in your house.

I picked up both a PS3 and a 360, the PS3 was mainly for the blu ray player and a few exclusive titles and the Xbox 360 was for a few other system exclusives. I really don't miss gaming on the PC; for many games the control issue is just a matter of getting used to the console game pads. And I LOVE that the consoles just work. No driver issues, or compatibility problems, etc. yes they're still buggy occasionally, but far more solid than PC gaming.

I'd say do a little checking in to system exclusive titles to see if the games you'd like to play are exclusive to one of the consoles. XBox gets a lot of timed exclusives as well, like the upcoming Dawnguard expansion for Skyrim. It'll be on Xbox about a month before PS3, allegedly. Also, if you need a hi-def source for video, the blu ray on the PS3 is pretty sweet. Both systems will stream hi def content from Netflix, so that's a wash. Either way, consoles can be a great source of entertainment and fun with family and friends. Good luck, I hope you get what meets your needs best!
