Getting a brush from Lee Sabini

I've been thinking about getting a really nice brush here lately, as currently I rotate between a Semogue 830 and a VDH badger. When the time's right, I might just go ahead and try to contact Lee, and hope for the best. My main questions are about what to expect should Lee respond:

1. I don't know much about knot size, loft, etc. Will I need to know that, specifically, or can I just describe to Lee what I desire in a brush, and he'll take it from there?

2. Seeing some of the brushes pictured in other threads, it seems he has quite a variety of handle colors/styles. I'm assuming he'll have some examples for me to look at?

3. Cost. I hate to even bring it up, but cost is somewhat of an issue, like it is for all of us who aren't independently wealthy. What should I expect here? It can be a wide range, just trying to get some sort of idea what to expect.

i apologize if these are silly questions, but I haven't seen much info as far as what happens after contact has been made with Lee.

1. I told him what I wanted for one brush, and I bought one readymade from him for my other brush. Both worked fine. I'm sure you can tell him what you want from the brush and get it.

2. No idea. I kind of doubt it. More likely he'll tell you what he has available or ask you what you're looking for. Odds are unless the brushes owner supplied the handles to him for their brushes, the brushes you've seen are good examples of what he has.

3. I bought both mine many years ago, but I paid around $75 for a 23mm reknot (my handle) and around $150 for a 25mm in horn. I expect prices have gone up a bit since then, but I'd expect $100-200 depending on size, unless you want greater than 26mm, in which case costs would go up substantially.

I'm trying to get a brush from Lee, too. I've written twice so far and gotten no response. I know this is the typical story. I'm hopeful that patience and persistence will pay off.

Thanks, Ian, just what I was looking for. If those costs are accurate, that's not bad at all for a top-tier brush, made to order. I might give it a shot in the next few months.
