Germany?

I have a friend going over to Germany next week. I know there are some killer German shaving soaps. Is there anything, common, good and much cheaper than the US that I could ask them to pick up for me? Apparently this is going to be pretty rural. Too bad no Moos. :(

Tabac, Speick, and Palmolive come to mind. They are still very affordable here in the US but you might be able to get them for basically nothing over in Germany.

Palmolive is a steal there, others are almost the same price as here.

Don't forget to have them pick up some after shaves, they are a better value except that they are heavy and weight the baggage. Pitralon, Hâttric, Tüff

My suggestions would include Klar Seifen, Calani, Dr. Dittmar, and Gold Dachs. They are a bit more difficult to find in the U.S. and generally are priced considerably higher than what they cost in Germany. Though no longer made, a stick of Sir Irisch Moos may be easier and cheaper to find in Germany than elsewhere. Other excellent German soaps such as Speick, Palmolive, and Tabac are readily available in the U.S. at very reasonable prices.

Sadly the KK has been discontinued.

As for products in Germany, if you like Speick after shave, it is a bit cheaper over there then here. My parents were kind enough to bring me a few bottles from their last trip there. I just ordered the Speick on amazon.de and had it shipped to the place where my parents were staying. Even so my parents were told you can purchase the after shave at a chain called "DM Markt".

Ask for a couple of t-shirts. Just about everything else is available in the USA (even if it does cost a few more dollars).

If you're in fountain pens ... inks! Pelikan and MB, for instance. You may even be so lucky to find some discontinued Rotring inks!

Good luck on that, I searched all over and never saw any of these products. I also never saw any Haslinger in Austria, even in Wien. Just sayin'

You are probably best of to order them online and have them send to the place where your friend is staying. Or just contact the manufacturers and ask them where one can buy their products. Like in the USA, a lot of the products are not commonly available in normal brick and mortar stores.

I ordered some KK last week from this store in Hamburg, they are still showing that they have stock but I don't know how much... I think they also sell the 250g bars.

If your friend is coming to Berlin & staying in a hotel and delivery to a hotel address is a problem, then PM me and I'll have some sent to my home and I'll pass it on to your buddy.

These are good suggestions as far as products go. As far as stores go, have him look at these:

  • Rossmann
  • Manufactum
  • Karstadt
  • DM

Those all carry plenty of wet shaving products.

Hâttrick aftershave also is surprisingly good, in my opinion ... and very inexpensive in Germany (less than €5 for a 200ml bottle). It's a real German classic.
