German Parat

I have a German Parat that I bought a few months ago and haven't used yet. It looks very aggressive to my eye. Any thoughts on this razor?

These are actually Gillette Super Speeds, that were made at Gillettes german plant. They made also the Rotbart safety razors there. The Super Speed was sold as Parat in Germany. I think the blade gap is a littlebit different than the gap from the razors made in the US plant.

You are correct. The blade gap difference on my 40's style SS and British Parat can be easily seen when they are loaded with a blade. My Parat appears to have about the same blade gap as a US made Red Tip when compared side to side.

I own a Parat as well and it's by far my mildest shaver. It really is very gentle, so nothing to fear!

Interesting. I shave with a Red Tip and open combs on a regular basis, but for some reason with a blade loaded in the Parat, the gap looks enormous--like a fat boy on 8 or 9. I'll give it a try anyway next time I shave. Thanks all.

I just shaved with my German Parat. It provided an excellent shave with little effort :thumbup1:. It was fairly aggressive (small nick on the neck that closed up with some after shave) but really not too bad. It has earned a spot in my rotation.

No, it's far to aggressive for you. Don't shave with it again. Pack it up and sent it to me. I'll be doing you a huge favour taking it off your hands :001_tt2:

The German Parat is a great razor. Certainy at the higher end of the aggressiveness scale but they give wonderful shaves.

I haven't used mine for quite some time, maybe I should give it another spin? I was underwhelmed by it the last times, but then I have progressed on my way to wetshaving wisdom, so who knows...?
