George Town Pottery Brush Scuttle?

Well its been a very long journey but to make a long story short. I had GTP make me a custom brush scuttle. Oh boy am I very happy and it was well worth the wait. Not that it was that too long after all these are usable art pieces hand thrown.

I wanted a small scuttle to keep my loaded brush nice and toasty. I only face lather so this is the ideal.

I designed it as a small one piece brush scuttle 2.25 wide x 2.5 deep for the brush chamber, Pour/fill spout and a handle, glazed in Hamada & Persimmon :biggrin1: They made two just incase one didnt come out good, well they both came out great so I took both:blushing: Eventually I let one go :001_smile

My design broken down

2.25 wide x 2.5 deep chamber - Small opening for maximum heat retention allowing little heat to dissipate. Perfect for small to medium brushes.

Pour/fill spout and a handle - For ease of use and easy transporting

Non tapered, smooth, brush chamber - to eliminate air pockets and maximize heat transfer rate.

A true piece of usable art, and oh yes it will get heavily used. Once you go scuttle you cant go back. Especially now that its winter :001_rolle

I just received them today and Ive already put them to the test. I filled it with water and heated up in the microwave for 1 min 30 sec. I like it hot and my tap is hot but I like hotter. I then load my brush with soap and place it in the scuttle and let it get toasted while I prep my face. Next I mush is up and down a bit and begin to face lather. I recharge it by a few pumps in the chamber. Very very nice & toasty lather for the first 2 passes, 3rd was still very nice and warm. It could have gone for a 4th no prob but I was done. Total time for my shave was about 10-15 minutes, using my finest stubby, irisch moos and a tosuke japanese traditional straight.

Im sorry my pictures dont do the scuttle justice, they are lacking the iridescence that they have. GTP owners know what I mean :biggrin1:

The cost was only $36 plus ship!!! Im not sure if their rate will change if it takes off. The wait time was about 2 months for this custom piece. Which could change if they started to carry them as a stock item or made a mold. You the consumer can change that with demand

To sum it up this is a face latherers dream!

If it does go into regular production, will it be called the 'Ambrose Brush Scuttle?' Would be fitting...:w00t:

Nice work, great idea and beautiful result.

Thank you guys for the kind words :blushing:

I used it today for the second time and man it is pure heaven. So easy to use, and the size is just perfect and it keeps my loaded lather not just warm but toasty borderline hot. Its especially nice during these winter months.

if you are interested in getting one. I would recommend calling the fine folks at GTP. The higher the demand is, the more likely they will keep it as a regular stock item. At $36 a pop its really a steal of a deal for a fine piece of usable art.

Im in no way affiliated with GTP by the way. Most of you would know that about me by now though.

Its my excitement and my happiness with a fine product that has me so worked up. This is not the first custom brush scuttle Ive had BTW. I also own a dirty bird custom and it just doesnt come close.

For those that didnt see it, my friday SOTD to further entice. Pictured is the second one of the two scuttles I own.

Do we tell them that we want the "Ambrose Special"?

The ABS from an earlier post from ginantonix aka Jonathan. The ABS "ambrose brush scuttle", I like that  I think they will know exactly what your talking about as soon as you say that custom brush scuttle for Jose aka ambrose. Ive already given them the heads up on this thread. So you guys are set :thumbup1:

Emailed them, we'll see what they say!!

I'm a face latherer too and was noticing how cold my lather gets between pass 1 and 2. Especially during the colder months, it was 29 degrees here this morning.

That is really slick. I normally bowl lather with a Dirty Bird scuttle, but I may have to pick one of those up for use with shave sticks.

Well those both are magnificent pieces. This is probably the first example of a brush scuttle that has ever caught my eye.

Really nicely done.
