Just curious about a Trumper super badger shaving brush I bought as new old stock. It says Geo F. Trumper, Super Badger, made in England on the handle, but did Trumper really make them or did another firm make them for Trumper. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KES
I posted a thread on this just last week. Was in the GFT store on Curzon Street, Mayfair. Many of the brushes for sale were clearly manufactured by Simpson or Rooney. While all bore the Trumper's label, the style of lettering, numbering systems and shapes clearly revealed their heritage. Moreover, some of the brushes appeared to be NOS Simpsons, with the crooked, lampblack lettering characteristic of the Somerset era. At the same time, there were other brushes of more diverse, unknown origins. I have three GFT brushes purchased in the 80's and 90's, and two are clearly Simpsons, the other unknown. All of this suggests that, like the other London shops, Trumper's sources its brushes from more than one supplier.
I have an I.B.10 that was manufactured sometime in the 80s or 90s and this series was confirmed by Mark at Vulfix to be made by his company, this was at another popular forum that had a similar discussion as linked above. FWIW, my Trumper brush has a nice handle, dense knot with just a bit more loft that I would prefer for face lathering, but works very well in the bowl.
The three brushes in my avatar are all GFT brushes. They are Simpson era Chubby brushes, as verified by Gary Young. Simpson is no longer making brushes for Trumper, but I have no idea when they stopped.
