FVF I've been aging from 1-8-10

Hello All,

A couple of years ago I was hit by the tobacco bug. My cellar isn't very big, but when Michigan passed the ban on smoking in public places my interest quickly dwindled. I had heard the Full Virginia Flake is a pipe smokers dream (especially with some age on it). So right before there was shortage of the stuff here in the states I bought about 4 ounces to save away, thinking I could get some at any point. Well, as stated before, everything coincided and I quick smoking as much and I never went back and bough some more.

After about 3 years of aging I believe I have the famed "crystals" forming on the tobacco so I'm very excited about that. I also see that you can now buy the stuff in bulk (at least pipesandcigars.com seems to have it). I'm wondering if anything has changed in the tobacco from the time we had the shortage over here to it being more available. I'd really like to do an A/B test between the two to see the difference.

Also, I'd like to hear what you guys think about the blend in general.

Don't know if they're from pre-shortage days, but I have a couple older style tins and the one I opened has flakes heavily coated in bloom/crystals. It does indeed taste magnificent. I also recently picked up some bulk FVF but since there is barely any visible crystalization, in addition to it being bulk from a somewhat popular vendor, I'm assuming it is new or fresh and thus have put it into a mason jar for longterm aging. So unfortunately I can't offer any comparisons there. But in general, my overall impression of this tobac is VERY good... Top 3 good, in fact. It is so simple (note: not simplistic) yet so rich and deep and full and satisfying. My palette doesn't do all the chocolate-pepper-dried fruit-wine-etc. analysis that some seem to be capable of, but it knows what it likes, and it sure does like this 'baccy.
