Many years ago now my father who was a Robert Taylor (Hollywood Actor) look alike had a serious accident and was hospitalised for a lengthy period. Being an ex Air Force man with the customary pencil thin moustache he was very particular about his grooming and insisted on shaving himself as soon as he was able. One day when my mother and I went in for our daily visit we were shocked by the sight we beheld on entering the room. My father looked like someone had slit his throat from ear to ear but we could only see one side of his face with his head to one side on the pillow.
My mother freaked out with the usual OMG and holy mother of god of those days and I gasped as well. On closer inspection I realised that he had nicked his ear without realising it and the blood had trickled down across his throat and dried as he snoozed. As I calmed my mother down with the explanation a nurse walked in and burst into laughter. My poor father didn't know what was going on until the nurse brought in a mirror to which he laughed and said ah it's only a nick, what's the matter with you lot.
We all laughed about that for many years and I still do 45yrs later.
