Frog Morton's Cellar

Is brilliant.

I don't smoke often, be lucky to have three or four pipes per month. I had my first bowl of this today, which I purchased based on the fact that I really like the original Frog Morton. Because of my random and intermittent smoking habits my packing and smoking technique leave much to be desired - I basically stuff tobacco in a pipe, then puff away like a demented steam train. I know, I know, puff slowly and gently, but who's got time for that!?

Well it seems 'the Cellar' doesn't have time for it either. Despite me giving it an absolute beating (I finished a full MM Freehand in about 35-40 minutes) it did not bite one bit, tasted delicious and has a very pleasant aroma. What more can you ask for in a tobacco?

I'm waiting for 50g of this from my PT retailer... heard a lot about this tobacco and I hope I will like it.

Are there any other 'aromatic latakia' blends? I'm thinking of trying Dunhill My Mixture 965 next. I've also got a tin of Bob's Chocolate Flake that I haven't tried yet.

I've been on the fence about this blend for quite some time. After reading your post I am definitely going to pull the trigger on this as soon as I can!

I really enjoy the FM series. My favourite is On the Town. With the Frog I find it needs a little drying first...not a lot, maybe left out for 20 minutes first or so, but after doing so it smokes much more evenly with fewer relights. The only other aromatic latakia blend I can think of is Brits Balkan, by Rich at 4noggins. It's a balkan style with a slight vanilla topping. I thought it sounded weird at first too but it really works, it's one of my favourites.

Yeah it seems even smoother than the Original, as far as Aromatic latakia blend recommendations, Just For Him's Shortcut to Mushrooms & Whiskey Buscuit Gravy are good, Sillem's Black, Dan's Devil's Holiday (berry with some spiciness) Boswell's Northwoods.

Got a sample of FM Cellar yesterday from my local Tinder Box. Enjoying my first bowl now. It won't be my last. Also picked up a 50 gm FMOTB to try as well.

So I just purchased some FM cellar a few days ago. However, it might just be my newbish qualities coming out, but I can't seem to keep it lit. I know, I know, relighting shouldn't be a concern. But when I have to relight every other puff it become annoying.

Anyways, I've tried just about every packing method out there. I think I am doing them correctly, but I just can't seem to get it smoking right.

Anybody have any suggestions for me?

Might have more to do with packing technique than method. Whatever method you chose if a tobacco is too tight to allow good air flow through the pack it will not stay lit, and if it is too moist it is difficult to keep lit at low temps.

Try letting it sit out and dry before you load your pipe. 20-30 minutes is the sweet spot for the regular Frog Morton for me. YMMV.

Gawith's Perfection Mixture is a VA/Oriental/Latakia blend with a subtle hit of vanilla.

I had my first bowl of Frog Morton's cellar tonight and loved it. I received my order from 4noggins today with Frog Morton's cellar and the original Frog Morton. I will smoke the original tomorrow to compare.
