What's new

Fragrancenet.com

I have ordered from them in the past with good results. I got a shipment today with a bottle of Brut spray cologne that just didn't look right. The logo was different and the box had a made in Mexico notation. It also doesn't smell right, scent fades after ten minutes. I also ordered a bottle of Canoe after shave, that one says packaged in China, it's not as off as the Brut but just is not the same as I recall.
I may be losing my sense of smell due to my age, but a lot of the stuff on the market these days just is not what it used to be. I called the vendor today and was told that all their stuff is 100% original. The problem may be the product.
I wanted to get the Brut in a glass bottle as the plastic bottles tend to degrade IMO and the product doesnt last as long. This stuff I got today is in glass and smells like mostly water.
Anyone else had similar experience with this vendor?

There are counterfeit items everywhere today - Rolex watches, Hermes scarfs, Louis Vuitton just about everything. I guess it wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude that that our friends in China and Mexico would market fake cologne or after shave. A small amount of liquid goes for a damn good price.

Usually people worry about old shelf items because things degrade over time especially when they are exposed to the sun. Anything you buy as a discount in fragrances increases the risk you've bought old product. There are also counterfeit products in the internet though I'm unaware of what is routinely knocked off in the aftershave world. Also remember aftershave doesn't last long. If you want something to last hours you need colognes or even Eau de Toilettes.

I too have purchased a number of items with this company with excellent result. I should be very curious about what Frangrancenet has to say about these purchases.

I called Customer service and was assured that all their stuff is authentic. I still have some doubts. The box on the Brut says it was made in Mexico and distrubuted by a company in El Paso.
After starting this thread, I noted that the test area on my arm I tried the Brut out on smelled more like the fragrance I remembered. I wonder if they changed the formulation a bit, after it stays on awhile it seems ok.
I have been buying after shaves as I have developed some allergies over the years and some stuff is too heavy for me in cologne form. I can't wear Aramis at all anymore, it makes me sneeze.
The Canoe I bought seems ok, just very light but of course it's an aftershave. I can probably use these so won't be returning. Some of this problem is undoubtedly due to loss of some of my sense of smell- I'm in my early 60's.

I think with some of the scents readily available, mass marketed scents like Brut, Clubman, Canoe, many of this discount web sites may indeed get a lot of product from other countries.

I think of it terms of the 99cent stores I've been in that sell lots of name brand products like Colgate or Listerine that was created for sale in Mexico.

If this was from a new company I would be curious, but as they seem to have a decent reputation on here, I would be inclined to believe that they are genuine.

I would call them again if I still wasnt satisfied and request a refund or exchange.

Dont let your eyes cloud your judgment, let your nose judge. It might be possible that the packaging has changed slightly for different markets/countries??

I think a light just went on. I wonder if these are indeed genuine products that are packaged for marketing in other countries under a licensing agreement with the name brand companies?
It does make me leery of this vendor.

If this be true, it would make me leery of ordering it from any vendor.

I think it kind of depends on the product. Something at price point like Brut is produced and distributed on a grand scale unlike many of the designer or niche scents. Brut is at this point basically a drug store scent like Old Spice and Clubman. By "drug store," meaning it is sold on the shelves with shaving gear, as opposed to behind the counter in the cologne section.

I've purchased designer and niche scents from FragranceNet and not had a problem. They are "dumb" about shipping though. The boxes were poorly "packed."

I can't address if the product you got smells any different or not Snick, but my own experience has been that when I buy a fragrance I remember from my younger days, it often doesn't smell the same as I remembered. There are also through the years many reformulations that can alter the scent as they change to either include cheaper ingredients or meet new regulations for fragrances. Additionally, fragrances made for another country might have a slightly different formula. I believe there is a cult following in here for a variation of Old Spice distributed in India that aficionados say is closer to the original Old Spice formula.
