Found unopened holiday packaged Jim Beam...how much is it worth?

Hey guys,

My Dad recently had some of his father's personal effects sent up from Texas, and among them was what looks to be an unopened holiday packaging of a fifth of Jim Beam, in a Royal Jade bottle. He asked me to do some research and see what it might be worth. I tried eBay, but remembered that alcohol falls under the category of prohibited items. He said the bottle is from 1972, unopened with the liquor control seal unbroken.

Sent me this picture to describe its looks (this is not the actual item, and it's a very small picture):

How much would you guys guess it is worth? And if you don't know, could you point me to someone who may know? If it isn't worth selling, we're going to drink it!

Thanks!

These are sold on Ebay all the time as collectible decanters that have "incidental" contents, but some day the government will crack down on it. That said, it probably would fetch more than Beam Black but wouldn't fetch more than a current premium Beam product, such as Booker's.

If you want to learn more, you might try bourbonenthusiast.com in this thread . Other whiskey fora are prone to getting testy when first posters show up to ask about selling their one old bottle.

I'd drink it, with a toast to your grandfather's memory; that'll be its highest and best use.

Roger,

I appreciate your referral to bourbonenthusiast. However, it seems as though gmail addresses are not accepted for registration on that forum.

Any other guesses on what this item is worth would be appreciated!
