Hi everyone,
I've been shaving with a DE for a while now and have recently decided I'd like to make the jump to a straight razor. I've been gathering all my needed supplies, and I recently found an old razor that used to belong to my grandfather. If it's still in good condition, I'd love to get it restored and use that as my razor, but seeing as I'm new to the whole thing I'm not sure if this thing is good enough quality to use or not.
It's a J.A. Henckels Twin Works razor, and has the company name, along with Solingen-Germany printed on one side, with an "A" stamped beside it, and then the other side says Twins with a couple of hyrogliphs. I've tried to clean it up a bit with sandpaper, but I didn't want to do to much and mess it up.
Also, if it turns out this thing can be used, where can I get it restored and honed by a professional? I can't seem to find anyone in my area (Louisiana) that will do it. I bought a cheap Gold Dollar razor to practice my honing and stroping, but I don't want to risk messing this one up by doing it myself.
