What's new

For my oldest son's thirteenth birthday.

My oldest son turned thirteen today and I thought that the transition into adolescence deserved a entree into DE wetshaving. At the least it will provide a memorable point for him to look back on and an opportunity to pass on some knowledge for me. Picked up the Flare on the bay for $3 and it polished up great (H4 date code). Hopefully the VDH set will start the AD for him and I can encourage it before he gets an SO who gets most of his money. Only 2 more converts to go, but they're 8 and 4 so I still have some time to find good vintage razors.

Nice kit. I hope he appreciates how much more enjoyable this way of shaving is than the contemporary convention. He could be set for years with that kit alone.

I got a really nice leather Dopp kit for my Bar Mitzvah, which lasted me almost 30 years, how cool would it be to get one of those at thirteen including the DE razor, soap, and brush?

Wonderful idea...bet he loves it.

Hats great. I picked up a tech a few days ago that my son (8) is fascinated with. He said he wants it to be his first razor when he's old enough to shave. Brought a little tear to my eye.

I set up my 14 year old cousin with Gillette tech, vdh luxury brush and soap and 10 derbys. He is very excited to start shaving. I have some Israeli personnas and bic chomre platinum ordered that I will also give him some of them.

Nice. I look forward to teaching my sons the joy of a proper shave, though I have many years to go before that time rolls around. I hope your son appreciates it!

I have a son turning thirteen soon. That's a great idea.

Of course, with a bathroom that's already got scores of razors, soaps, brushes and creams stashed in it, not to mention blades, aftershaves, mugs, colognes and talcs, the idea of of purchasing MORE STUFF for the boy to put on the counter is sure to send the bride into low orbit.

My secret fear is that he'll go cartridge or electric just to get my goat.

Great story. My wife yesterday called me excitedly and to my surprise there sitting on her princess step stool she had my wife pink lady and was pretending to shave( I had my camera with me!) and said "I want to shave like you and mommy". Oh YEAH!:biggrin1: She knows how to steel my heart!

Lucky kid! All my dad told me was "Use disposables because they're all the same [Expletive] anyway!" when I first started shaving in general. He got mad when I came home with a 3 pack of 5 bladed razors telling me I wasted my money. /rant

I wish I had know about that set sooner!

I've picked up some extra Techs, News and Old Types for my sons to use when the time comes. They're cheap and in the mean time they can scrape shave soap off their faces minus blades as we discuss a little shave technique. They love it. They ask to join me for a shave before bed time. My little one (8) loves Bay Rum AS. Now how can you turn that down. My oldest (11) asked if he got all my razors when I die.
