Fixing nicks

Ok my noobie stropping hand has put a few nicks in my new strop. None are in the middle of the strop but are along the edge. I seem to be causing them after I turn the razor over. For some reason I'm making small movements with the blade causing the nicks. First, will this affect the blade when stropping? Second, what's the best way to fix these nicks? I've heard using a pumice stone works well but before attempting it I would like someone to explain the actual procedure or give an alternate method. Thanks.

I've used contact cement with 1200 or 600 grit sandpaper because that's what I had around. Worked great! Don't know that I'd make a special trip out for pumice stone. I just applied glue with a toothpick, made sure the fix was smooth and level and then waited overnight. Sand smooth with whatever grit you feel works best and you're good to go.

bmc1979,

I have had good results sanding the edges of the nick with 600 or 800 grit silicon carbide paper.

I feather the nick edges with the paper; I then apply the tiniest amount of neatsfoot oil onto the sanded area, and all is well again :001_smile

+1 on Woodashs' suggestion of the use of rubber or contact cement for gluing the edges of the deeper nicks - it works very well.

Best of luck.

Have fun !

Best regards
