First try at making my own pre-shave oil.not bad

Greetings fellow B&B members. Well partly because I am cheap and can't stand spending a lot of money on things that are less than stellar, like Anthony's pre-shave oil, I decided to try my hand at apothecary!!

Today I visited a few health stores and obtained some carrier oils and an essential oil and went to work making my own pre-shave oil. I used:

2 TBS Avacado Oil
2 TBS Jojoba Oil
2 TBS Grape Seed Oil
1 TBS of Castor Oil
8-10 drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil.

Mixed in a small plastic bottle and Voila!!! Almost as good as the store bought but nowhere near as much as the store brands! I do need to add a bit more castor oil on the next batch as I think the thinner oils absorb into the skin too quickly....although my skin does feel great!!! I want something that stays on just a bit longer than the first pass.

All in all it was a rewarding experience and am looking forward to more recipes and scents! Looking forward to sharing with brave fellow members as well!!

Nice! I will eventually do this, too. Did you do some research? What are the basic principles? my main concern is to have a very very light oil, like Trufitt and Hill.

I just read some recipes and what the properties & applications were for the various types of oils. If you want, I'd be happy to share some of my concoction if u just cover a small bit of shipping.

I'm set with T&H for a long time to come...I use oil only in the winter, and something with menthol in the summer.

Excellent observation on the viscosity of the oil vis a vis skin absorption. I never thought about that. I predominately use olive oil with some tea tree oil added. I love he way my skin feels because it definitely absorbs but lacks he slickness of say Shave Secret.

I have found the stuff you make can be better than any stuff you can buy off the shelf. Experiment. I've had good luck with Olive Oil, Baby Oil, Eucalyptus Oil in addition to what you've found. With some careful analysis you can tell how they react with your skin. Take the best of different products & incorporate them in your personal pre-shave.
