First Straight Shave...Sort of.

I've just completed my first full face straight shave after just shaving the cheek areas to get accustomed to holding the razor as was recomended to me by a friend. I find that for the most part I got a far superior shave than what I'm used to with far less skin irritation. I was amazed that the aftershave balm didn't sting in the least. I'm currently using a VDH boar brush (money's a little tight right now, but I'll be upgrading after working some overtime to catch up on bills), C.O. Bigelow shave cream (building my lather in a bowl), and Gillette Aftershave Balm.

The biggest problem I'm having is with the razor I'm using and I was wondering if I could get some advice. I'm using one of the Vincent barber-style "straights" that uses half of a DE blade (planning on upgrading in a month or so as well). It works pretty well with the Personna blades I have but since the blades are so short I keep nicking myself with the corners. Does anyone know if longer blades can be obtained for this sort of razor?

Here's a picture a Magic that is pretty much the same as my Vincent.

Dovo, makes a shavette that can accommodate, a longer blade. They actually make a longer blade and it just might work for you. BUT rather than trying to rig something up, do yourself a favor and get A REAL STR8. If you like the shavette you will love a str8. They are so much more forgiving and user friendly.

Oh, and welcome!

+1. I agree completely. Except for the "view checkout" part. I'm not sure how you slipped that past the mods, but you're disguisting .

Just have to add... I owned an almost identical Shavette to the one pictured. A real Dovo Shavette with the green insert and Personna blades is a thousandfold better. Personally, it does give a close approximation to an actual straight (at least, comparable to a smaller full hollow blade.)

No, it's not the same, and if you are like me you will end up with a Dovo Shavette and the real thing (or multiple real ones .)

.

I have been using a shavette and get good shaves and I figure if a str8 can give me a better shave than this *** I am getting one. So, I got my first real str8 today and I am scare to try it but I find comfort to know that they are more forgiving than the shavette.

That's good!

I would also recommend the real straight vs the shavette... The shavette is great but the real deal is so different!
